If you don't have the Audio Out jacks on the back then you can't unless your using a cable box or satellite receiver. Then you can use the audio out from either one that you have. Bottom line, if you have no cable box or satellite then you can't if your set has no audio out jacks.

Hi.What kind of audio output connections does your TV have?
If it has mini jack output, you should use this cable:12_15_2011_7_49_41_pm.jpg
If the output is RCA you should use this one:

Sounds to me like you are trying to use a composite hookup or a generic HDMI cable. If you get the official Microsoft HDMI connector it also includes phono audio outputs and an optical audio out for 5.1 surround,

In most cases the TV is used just as an input device, and they frequently have no output jacks. Usually the TV is hooked up as part of a home theater system, and is used as a video monitor while the sound is taken care of by a receiver or amplifier. The sound comes from the video source (DVD player, set-top box, etc.). Some TV sets have audio output available, but it sounds like yours doesn't. If you want to have surround sound, you'll need to invest in a receiver and speakers.

Does you television have an "Optical Audio Output"? This would be the best and easiest way to get surround sound from your system. If your TV has an optical output the you can use an Optical Cable to connect the TV to the reciver. This way whatever you are watching from the TV will be in surround sound. The HDMI connection sends a surround sound signal from each device to the television. If you connect it to this output on the TV then make sure the optical output is turned on in you telivison's menu. If your TV does not have an Optical Audio Output then you will need to connect each optical output from the blu-ray and HDbox to your reciever. Your reciever will need to have two Input channels(one for each device). Then you can select that input to the device(blu-ray or HDbox) that you are using. The optical cable is the best way to go for surround sound because it is pure digital and produces the best sound. If the HDbox or Blu-Ray does not have an optical output then you will need the six rca jacks to get the surround sound. Let me know further info on what you have so I can assist you more.

I dont' have the fix but I do have a work around. You can hook your source directly up to a surround sound unit if you have one using red and white audio cables to the aux input on the surround sound system.

Can I set surround sound to work with tv not just with dvd's & videos

Yep. Depending how you already have things hooked up to your stereo, there is an audio out red/white on the back of your television that you would hook up to your stereo. Once connected, any sound that would normally come out of your television, will come through the stereo instead. Some TVs you have to tell it to use an external device for this to work. Just open your TVs menu, enter your audio set-up and you should see an option for sound output. Enjoy. :D

Basically, you have to use the output audio from the TV to go to the receiver.
On the TV, there should be a red and white audio output jacks for left and right. Or, if the TV has it, the best audio output to use for surround sound is optical output. You'll have to buy a optical cable for this.

no problem., Your flat screen has two audio outputs, one red and the other white. Connect these two into your surround system and the system will handle the rest.
