Question about Heavy Duty Associated Equipment 6002B 6/12/18/24 Volt Heavy-Duty Battery Charger

My charger is not putting out dc voltage, but is putting out ac voltage. for example, if i select 24 volts it will put out 24 volts ac, not dc. what failed to cause this problem? I am getting no amps on the meter on the charger.

Hi, you're Rectofier has failed if you have A/C voltage and no D/C voltage. This is what converts A/C volts to D/C volts. If you have a diagram or any parts manual, you can locate this part and replace it. You will need to go to a place that repairs these chargers, or where you bought it to order or but a new one.

This information expands upon the error code information contained in the Link 2000 Owner?s Manual.
E-01 Inverter high DC/Battery voltage shutdown Battery voltage has risen above 15.5 VDC for 12-volt models or 31 VDC for 24-volt models.
E-02 Inverter low DC/Battery voltage shutdown Battery voltage has dropped below 10 VDC for 12-volt units or 20 VDC for 24-volt units.
E-03 Inverter or Charger overtemp shutdown Unit will reset automatically after it has cooled sufficiently.
E-04 Battery overload Caused by excessively discharged batteries. See section in inverter owner?s manual titled ?Charging overdischarged batteries.?
E-05 AC Backfeed AC power from an outside source has been fed to the AC output of the inverter. Potentially damaging to the unit. Disconnect incoming AC power and correct the situation.
E-06 Electronic Overload Inverter overload caused by too large a load or a short circuit. Reset by cycling power switch or connecting incoming AC power.
E-07 Triac control error Triac has overheated. Shut down unit and allow to cool.
E-08 High battery voltage shutdown during charge mode Check all charging sources for proper voltage. Reset by cycling the power switch.

How to use a voltage or multi meter.


You can buy a reliable, two probe voltage meter at most building supply stores for around $30. They typically have two testing probes and a dial to select the function. The four major functions are AC voltage, (a V with a wiggly line), DC voltage (a V with a straight line), resistance or continuity (the symbol omega), and amps(A). To use the meter you decide what value you are testing for and estimate what range the result would be in. For example, testing a receptacle, you would use AC Volts on a 200 range, expecting a 120 volt reading. For continuity or resistance, select a mid range to start with. Hold one probe to each side of the circuit or item to be tested. If the reading is infinite then there is no internal connection between the parts tested. If the reading is zero then there is a connection or a short between the parts being tested. For example, if you put the probes on the terminal screws of a switch, one position would give you a zero reading, and flip the switch and you would get an infinite reading. For a light bulb an infinite reading means it is burned out, a zero or close to it reading means the lamp is good.
You would use the DC Voltage function to check circuits in your car, or to check batteries. The car is 12volts DC and a battery is 1.5 volts DC.

The typical lousy power source for this system is likely defective. They will normally rise to 140-150% of nominal voltage (24V) and settle around the required voltage when loaded.
Check the supply (if separate) for a rating of voltage and current; for example: "24VDC/XXMa" where the 'XX' is the current that will either be in milliamperes or amperes.
To correctly measure the voltage, you must know first if it's output is AC or DC.

If this is a DC supply, it probably has a failed diode, if AC, the transformer is bad.

A less likely, but possible problem, is that the programmer itself has an internal failure and is overloading the supply.

If you have a meter with a separate 10A jack, and you can interrupt either side of the supply line, try measuring the load current.
This will however, only be possible if the 10A can measure both AC and DC or if you know that the supply output is DC.

Okay, I'm working on a scooter for my nephew that originally came with (2) 12 volt 12Ah batteries minus the charger. and I know I need to replace them with (2) batteries of the same 12 volts and lets


not exact, to charge apropiate needs 10% more than nominal voltage. if not, will not charge the batteries.
And the charger its very important because you can over charge the battery.An example,if you have a 12 Amps Batteries each one if you put it in series will be 24 Volts.at parallel conection will be 12 volts but the double of Amps.
At serial connection will be 12 Volts the amps will be the same but the volts will be 24.

The charger at 12 Volts must be 13.8-14.5 DC Volts and divide the Amps in Hours.
The charger at 24 Volts must be 26-28 Volts. to charge well.

The charger for 12 amps batt example must charge 2 amps per hour at 6 hours = 12 Amps.(2 Amps Charger by 6 Hours Charging= 12 Amps.(Fully Charged.
3 Amperes Charger needs 4 Hours to charge 12 amps Batt.
5 Amperes Charger needs 2 Hours charging an a quarter
All of this is at DC Current.

Most automotive electronics work on a 12 Volt DC system. You must be using adapter capable of providing about 12 to 14 volts because car batteries provide 12 volts; but car alternators put out 13.8 volts. Do not attempt to connect to an adapter that put out AC voltage!

Meaning you are reading with a multimeter set to DC Voltage, and power IS at the DC Power Jack? (DC_IN)

You, of course, have checked the Voltage coming out of the AC adapter, (Charger), and have verified it is putting out the correct voltage?

19 Volts DC.

Then suggest you have a bad Power MOSFET, or two.
Using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, for an example,

As you can see the Power MOSFET's in question, will be close to where the DC Power Jack is attached to the motherboard.

Hi, i have svoa labtop and now my charger adapter got burnt due to electrict short. Now my charger is not working and i cannot use it.


OK. But I don't understand what the problem is.

AC adapter (Charger) is burnt out, by a new one.

Look at the old 'charger'.
Look at the label.

Input: 100 ~ 240VAC/50 ~60HZ.

100 to 240 Volts AC, at 50 to 60 Hertz. (Cycles per Second)

Output:
This is what you need to know.
What is the output voltage of the original charger?

Example;
Output: 19VDC @ 4.63A

19 Volts DC at 4.63 Amps. (Amperes)

Your charger MUST put out 19 Volts. (For the example)
It WILL be DC electricity, so don't worry about that. (Direct Current)

[Your 'charger' is more than that. More than a charger for the laptop battery.
It is also a Converter. It converts the 100 to 240 Volts of Alternating Current, (AC), into a low DC Voltage.

Plus it charges the Battery, WHEN needed ]

If the battery is not damaged or totally dead, you can attempt to charge it with any
24-Volt DC charger. The charging voltage rises to about 28 Volts when nothing is
connected to the charger. You must first connect (with jumper leads) the positive
charger output to the positive battery terminal. Use a test meter to determine the
polarity of the battery. Also test the charger output to determine the polarity. Be
sure to connect positive to positive and negative to negative. Do this before turning
on the power to the charger. If the battery is a "smart" battery; that is with built-in
electronic control circuit, the ordinary charger may not work. Normally, a battery
will accept a charge until it is nearly completely charged and then the battery
voltage will slowly "buck" the charging voltage. When the battery voltage and the
charging voltage are equal, no more charging current will flow. Amperes, that is
coulombs of current, charge the battery; when the battery is at (approximately) 24
volts and the charger is putting out 24 volts, NO current flows. The battery is then
fully charged.
