Plug the computer directly into the router using ethernet cable.

Set it up and, once all working, try with wireless.

You can manually go into the network settings and delete the old network configuration, and set up a new one. If all else fails, go to your desktop (which I am assuming connects OK) and check the settings on it, and use those to set up the laptop. Hope this helps

This may be a silly question, but have you input the WEP key for this new router into your laptop? It will be printed on the router with the serial number and such. It is the middle set, if I remember correctly. View all available networks with the laptop and pick yours. It should ask for the key. Input your new key and such, and you should be good as gold.

Hope this helps!

Lose router signal everytime i restart my laptop

This seems to be an issue with the router itself. As the laptop is able to connect to other networks easily, the trouble seems to be with the router.

Try updating the firmware on the router. Also, change the wireless channel on the router and check if that helps. If the issue persists then I believe you will have to get the router replaced.

No comunication between router and cable modem.

this is because your PC is picking up the WRTG54G which is an internal signal booster (internal gateway) to the ROUTER ITSELF.
WRTG54G is in the middle like an interpreter.
The WRTG54G is not connect to ROUTER>
thus the laptop is not connected, like sprinkler attached to the end of a hose but the HOSE not attached to the water faucet.
turn OFF laptop. RESET WRTG54G (there is a small hole you can stick a pencil in there and hold down for 15 long seconds; UNPLUG power.
PLUB back in and hit auto config button.
let WRT54G pick up a new IP ADDRESS from router. once that is done turn on laptop and it should pick up a new signal with new IP address assigned to it by the WRTG54G.

No cinnection with my laptop

Given the router was working and you haven't made any changes, and your laptop is able to connect to other wireless networks, it sounds like your router has suffered a hardware failure. Since it is less than 90 days old (the typical period in which you see failures of new electronics) I would suggest obtaining a replacement from the store you purchased from.

Laptop not seeing my wireless router

Try to manually "Add device to network" by using the wireless setup wizard. Check to see if the Wireless Zero Configuration service is "Running" before trying to add device. Yuo may also want to disable IPv6 in vista tcp/ip properties page.

Transfer files

You need to get a usb "linking cable", this cable has a standard usb on both ends and comes with software. Just plug it in to both laptops and run the software to start transferring files. These cables usually cost 20-30 dollars and can be picked up at most electronic or computer stores.

Good Luck
Hope this helps

How do i go wireless with my acer laptop? (my laptop has an ethernet port) how and what does the router connect to?

You will need to purchase a PCMIA Wireless card , it jsut slots into the expansion slots on the side of the laptop , they look like a flat card slot, also the you will need to purchase a Wireless Router / Access point (AP) then plug you router into this , this will send out a wireless signal which you can then configure to pick up on the laptop.

heres a link to a guide i wrote , it will help you in setting up a wireless connection and also a guide on what to purchase.

goodluck :)

Wireless stopped working

you may have accidently shut off the wireless on/off switch or button.i also have a acer laptop,& it has a sliding switch in front.other laptops have a push in button.your owners manual should show you where yours is. also check the bottom right hand corner of your laptop for the 2 little computers symbol. right click on it, click on view available networks, look for your router # on the listings. you may have to type in a wep key # to lock in your router.the other signals you are seeing are other routers in the area
good luck
