Question about Linksys WRT120N Router

1 Answer

Our wireless devices, IPOD and laptops, will not connect to the internet. It is not even showing Linksys available to us. The wireless router is hooked up. The #1 light (ethernet) keeps blinking on the router. I have changed it to a different number many times to see if that would make a difference and it doesn't. The internet (globe looking) light also blinks at times. So does the light by the globe looking one. (the one that looks like a signal strength light. It is the one closest to the ethernet numbers). I have reset the router, unplugged if for a while, and have done everything I have read about troubleshooting and nothing has worked. This is a new router....only about 3 months old or so. Can you please help me?

If by "reset", you mean you have done a factory defaults reset by pressing and holding the RESET button down for 15 to 20 seconds, then it sounds like your router has failed.
If you haven't held down the RESET button on the back for 15 to 20 seconds, then try that. If that doesn't return the router to working order, then the device is defective.
You should be able to get a warranty replacement.

My laptop and my iphone indicate that my wireless-g broadband router is putting out a wireless signal; but neither accessory works on the network, even though the bars are entirely full on the devices.

The bars on your laptop or iPhone means that you are connected to the router! Not necessarily to internet. Your internet depends on ISP Internet service provider and modem which connected to your router. To check if you have active internet connection connect your laptop directly to modem provided by your ISP with ethernet cable and try to open a internet browser IE or Safari or Chrome or Firefox and open a webpage! If you are able to connect internet by this mean you have internet connection active. Now disconnect your lap top from modem and connect modem to your Linksys router using WAN port of LINKSYS! Its good to power off and power on (power cycle) once on modem and router to make it work!
good luck!

Try turning off the power wait for 30 secs and reconnect the power and check if the LEDs light up again.
To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of therouter with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Wireless light is on but when I bring in my laptop it doesn't find my network. Just quit working. ??

Turn the router off, and unplug the AC power.
Turn the router on, and wait until the lamps show that it's fully ready.

Be sure that you have _not_ disabled your laptop's wireless networking.
On your laptop, click to "view available networks".
Does the router's "SSID" show up in the output?

Connect an Ethernet cable between the Ethernet-port on the router and the Ethernet-adapter on your laptop.

    Click Start
    Click Run
    Type 'cmd' and press ENTER.
In the "black" window, enter 'IPCONFIG'.
Find the line showing the IP-address of the "Gateway", probably something like ''.
    Start your web-browser, and enter:
to connect to the router's web-interface.
Click to run the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard".
    The router should restart.
    Disconnect the Ethernet cable.
Repeat the "Show available wireless networks".

Or, try some other wireless-ready laptop or wireless-ready iPod Touch, to see if these devices can "see" your router's SSID.
