Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

Gas fireplace overheating electronics? Recently had Valor gas fireplace installed. Noticed the brand new lcd screen had strange pattern developed. Felt behind it (mounted almost 2 feet above, to code), and it was very very hot. Felt top of satellite receiver which is about 5 feet above fireplace, it was even hotter. Took temp readings today - after 3 minutes, both areas read 118 degrees (and climbing). The surround itself was hot to the touch. There is a power outlet that was installed when the f/p was installed (for appliances) and I worry about fire hazard with all the wiring inside the surround. Any suggestions on what the fix may be - and whether the high temps. are in fact a hazard in any way? Advice appreciated! p.s. fireplace company saying this is not a problem and suggested WE buy a blower to solve it - don't want a blower as that would make it so we can't use f/p if power fails.

SOURCE: distance over gas fireplace

Both LCD TVs and plasma TVs get hot, though plasma TVs tend to be a bit hotter in my experience. Also, plasma TVs are going out of fashion.

A lot will depend on the construction of your fireplace. If it's brick it should insulate fairly well.

Either way, I would recommend a mounting solution that does not put the back of the TV flush with the wall. Get one that tilts. I would avoid the "arm" style ones as that will put additional strain on the mounting.

Remember to think about how you want to run your power and video cabling as well!

SOURCE: Exhaust Fan (outdoor blower?) shuts off after 1 minute, and motor feels hot

sounds like your condenser fan (the outside blower) has gone bad or the capacitor (small silver box looking thing attached to the motor). the way to test the cap. is with a digital meter that can test for micro farads. the reason it gets hot is you have electricity going to the motor. normally it would transition that energy to motion energy. however since the motor is not turning that energy has to go some where, so it turns into heat energy. your best bet is to replace your condenser fan and capacitor. that is if your comfortable with that type of repair. otherwise call someone out to repair and tell them what your make and model is so they can bring the parts with them and save you some money. hope that helps

SOURCE: Kamper2@earthlink.net has more info as requested

Hello kamper2 - Sorry for the delay in answering. I had a response prepaired but something cleared it on me about 2AM last night and I just couldn't think any more. Sounds like your problem is similar but different. I don't think you have to spend any more time on the roof looking at the roof unit. I have been working with a tech and Dometic for over 6 weeks. Right now I am running my A/C on an extension cord out my window and over the the power pedestal for power. The 12 VDC to the A/C circuit board is coming from a car battery sitting on my kitchen floor. The communication cable is a 25' telephone extension cord draped over my kitchen slide over to the CCC. Last week end I turned off all power to the trailer (110VAC and 12VDC) and sat here all day running just the A/C. It shut down 6 times. This was an effort by Dometic to eliminate RF energy affecting the microprocesser on the A/C control circuit board. Apparently the CCC and A/C control circuit board have some idiosyncrasies that aren't well explained. I also have an extended warranty on my A/C with Dometic. I'm thinking they believe RF energy may be picked up via the communication cable and affecting the microprocessor. Do you have a cell phone, wireless router for your computer or telephone or something that may put out noticeable RF energy? If you do, turn it off for a while to see if that may be related to the shut down's. I'm still working on my problem and no solution or reason yet. The circuit board in my A/C has already been replaced. I am assuming you do not have an icing problem with the problem A/C. If for some reason you decide to replace the communication cable from the CCC to the A/C circuit board, be aware that a typical telephone extension cord will not work. You must replace one of the plugs so the wires are straight through (pin for pin) and not reversed as the typical telephone extension cord is. Good luck with your detective work! azbill375

SOURCE: PC hot temperature reading on speedfan software

this temp is normal...not anything to worry about this..
it is serious if it goes above 180 degree...
even if reaches 150 mark the replacement of the heat absorbing PASTE in-between the processor and the heat sink will solve this for you

thankyou

My Valor fireplace won't turn off with the remote

Easy turn the gas cylinder close then its off,Or you could have a faulty control valve or thermo couple .Thermo couple is the small device looks like a probe to detect heat this is normally directly in the small pilot flame. The pilot flame if not burning will not open the control valve for the other burners to come on.If the other burners come on but do not go of when turned off. then need to check control valve.
