SOURCE: hp 3180 print cartridge light blinking

hi,

is the ink cartridge you replaced hp brand or did you refill it this is an incompatibility code from the software. some brands and cartridges are not fully compatible and creates an e code error code. if it is hp brand it is likely a defective sensor chip in the ink cartridge. i would for best assurance return the cartridge for a different one and then recheck. if niot you may need to restore your software or reinstall it most of the time this will fix the problem.

hope this helps..happy computing!

SOURCE: Epson Stylus CX7400 Ink Light Problem

You need to open up the maintenance window and go thru the motions that you are changing the cartridges and this resets the ink levels back to full and sends data to the printer saying that they are full and the ink light disappears and it prints fine !!!

Just changing them doesn't seem to do the trick like on a lot of printers

SOURCE: will not print

“All lights blinking and printer not responding” is indicative of serious ink cartridge issue. Usually when this happens the printer fails to goes through the motions of the printing process, kind of stands still with indicator lights just blinking away. This could be as a result of either of these scenarios.
i. Ink cartridge has developed incompatibility or is incompatible
The Solution is to try an older/another cartridge (doesn’t matter if ink is finished. You must replace cartridge one at a time). If lights stop blinking it confirms that your cartridge has become incompatible or developed incompatibility. Also if your printer is the type that can work with only one cartridge, remove one after the other (closing back the lid/cover) to determine which in the set (black or color) has become incompatible. At the instance the incompatible one is removed and you close the lid, the blinking will stop (for printers that can print with one ink cartridge only). Just replace the incompatible one and start printing again. In most cases the issue is always with one cartridge. But if both are affected, you have to replace both. Because of this type of problem, always keep used cartridges somewhere safe; they come in handy for this type of troubleshooting.
ii. The Cartridge electronic panel is dirty
The electronic panel on the cartridge that makes contact with the cartridge carrier inside the printer is dirty and needs cleaning. This electronic panel is front part of the cartridge with copper “dots”.
The Solution is to try to clean this panel with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also try to clean the area in the cartridge carrier/holder that makes contact with the cartridge’s electronic panel (Usually this is more difficult). If you cannot reach it with your fingers, use a stick or something with tissue wrapped around it. Allow to dry well and return the cartridges, close the cover. The blinking should stop if the electronic panel is the issue. Once the blinking stops the printer will print.

SOURCE: My ink cartridge light is blinking on my hp940c printer

Routine maintenance and keeping full ink tanks will prevent this problem, however if you have the problem you can resolve it by doing the following:
1. Clean your print head using denatured alcohol solvent which can be purchased from most hardware stores. If unavailable, use 91% Alcohol (isopropyl alcohol (first aid antiseptic) which is available for less than a dollar at most Walmart pharmacy departments.

*Warning: You may want to use a pair of latex exam gloves as this is a messy process and can stain your fingers.
Time necessary 45-50 minutes
Supplies needed:
Isopropyl Alcohol or denatured alcohol
paper towels
latex gloves
sink, bowls and or basin
can of compressed air
very small screw driver
tablespoon or baby bulb type syringe
warm water

PROCEDURE:
1. Lift print head from printer. It pulls out easily because it is held in with the same down lever that holds the cartridge in place.
2. Put two layers of paper towels in the bottom of a dish to protect sensitive sprayer heads.
3.Put enough solvent in dish to cover the screens on which the cartridges sit when in use.
4. Take the two small screws out that hold the white ceramic piece
5. Gently, pry the ceramic piece back and away , to reveal the underside (No need to pull away the glued points on the sides.)
6. Gently, move head up and down to slosh solvent around it the best as you can. Use a table spoon or syringe to pour solvent over all orifices in the print head, turning it upside down and then back a few times.
7. Use canned air with a plastic straw to blow into and through all orifices, alternately sloshing/swishing and pouring solvent over head (be careful not to touch any of the holes, screens, or sprayer heads with anything)
8. Empty dirty solvent from bowl and replace with paper towels and clean solvent. Soak for approx 10 minutes. Rinse again with clean solvent poured directly on all parts, letting solvent overrun and fall into dish or basin.
9. Gently shake the solvent off the head, take it outside and spray with compressed air into all orifices to clear out and help evaporate any remaining solvent. Let sit on a clean paper towel for approx 20 minutes. (There may be a little ink bleeding out of the head, but once it dries completely it does not present any problems.
10. Reinstall head, cartridges and it will print like a new printer.

SUGGESTION: For many years of problem free printing, keep a double set of ink cartridges, one set full at all times. Whenever a cartridge runs out of ink, replace it IMMEDIATELY, with a new one or a refilled one. This gives the print head no chance to dry out and create clogged heads. Routine maintenance of cleaning the heads every 24 months does wonders for keeping your printer in new condition.

Hope this helps. .

Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. You must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones. Caution: Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability. Note: Leave the expended cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement, or the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out. 1. Turn on your printer. 2. If an ink cartridge is expended, the error and ink lights on the control panel stay on. 3. Open the document cover, then open the ink cover. Caution: Do not remove the ink cartridge guard or you may damage the printer.24 Maintaining Your Printer 4. Press the y Stop button. If a cartridge is low or expended, the print head moves that cartridge to the replacement position to indicate that it should be replaced. The P Power light starts flashing. If two or more ink cartridges are expended, the expended cartridge at the far left moves to the replacement position. The P Power light starts flashing. If no cartridges are low or expended, the print head does not move. Note: Do not hold the y Stop button for more than three seconds, or the printer may start cleaning the print head. 5. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it up. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children.Replacing Ink Cartridges 25 6. Before you open the new cartridge package, shake it gently four or five times. Then remove the cartridge from the package. Caution: Do not touch the green chip on the front of the cartridge. This can damage the ink cartridge. 7. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the ink cartridge. Caution: Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink may leak. 8. Insert the new ink cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place. 9. Press the y Stop button. If another cartridge is low or expended, it moves to the replacement position. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to replace any other cartridges that need to be replaced. When you press the y Stop button and no other cartridges need to be replaced, the print head moves to its home position and the printer starts priming the ink. This takes about 1 1/2 minutes.26 Maintaining Your Printer When the P Power light stops flashing and the error and ink lights go out, ink charging is finished. 10. Close the ink cover, then close the document cover. Caution: Never turn off the your Epson printer while ink is charging or you'll waste ink. If the error and ink lights remain on after the print head moves into its home position, an ink cartridge may not be installed properly. Press the y Stop button again, and then press the ink cartridge down securely. Note: If you replaced a cartridge while copying a document or photo, cancel printing and make sure your original is still placed correctly on the document table. Then copy your original again. Based on the lights you are already out of one or more ink cartridge or an ink cartridge is not being recognized/expended.

-You cannot print if any ink cartridge is expended.
-Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement.

Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

1. Open the printer cover and press the INK REPLACEMENT button, located under the printer's cover. The print head moves to the center and the lights flash.

2. Lift up the ink cartridge clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder.

3. Remove the cartridge and dispose of it carefully. If ink gets on your hands, wash them with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.

4. Unpack the new ink cartridge and remove the yellow tape. You must remove the yellow tape from the top of the cartridge. Do not remove the clear seal underneath the cartridge. Do not touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, or you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

5. Tilt the new cartridge toward you slightly as you insert it. Lower the cartridge so that the tabs rest on the hooks. Do not place the cartridge tabs under the hooks.
.
6. Press down firmly on the ink cartridge clamp until it snaps in place.

7. If you need to replace the other ink cartridge, repeat steps 2 through 6 before continuing with step 8.

8. Press the INK REPLACEMENT button and close the printer cover. The printer begins charging the ink delivery system.

9. Wait until ink charging is finished (the power light stops flashing and the red error light goes out).
