i hate to come off as rude but I am really not finding this useful and it appears as though others aren't as well. i've tried doing the unplugging thing and i've tried downloading the new driver and i've tried going into recovery mode first but no matter what, it still goes to the "Refresh Database" screen and it still freezes in the same spot. could somebody offer some different advice that might help?

When I go to download anything it freezes up and won't do anything else. I have unplugged it, turned it off ( by pure luck), tried again to download and nothing.!!!!

I got a bunch of these Sansas (e280, e260, e240) in a Woot BOC, and several wouldn't do anything at all. When I charged them just the blue ring lit up - no response to any button push. I took off the back, took out the battery, and then peeled up the stuck-on black cover just above the battery. Under there were a couple of chips, and they looked a little 'angled' to me. I pushed them down gently, felt a 'click' as they reseated, and when I put it all back together it works fine now. I suspect that these chips come unseated after a drop and are the source of a lot of these problems.

I had just turned it on and the blue circle lit up, but nothing on the screen. I couldn't turn it off or do anything...it stayed like that for almost 12 hours (I thought I could let the battery go dead, but no such luck). I finally just unscrewed the back, took the battery out and put it back in!
Works great now! Hope this helps!

Sansa e260 firmware

Mine was a bit more FUBAR I guess. I have a Sansa e260. I had rockbox on it, went to switch back to the firmware. Uninstalled rockbox and on reboot... the e260 was refreshing the database and then came to a frozen green screen.

My e260 was already in MSC mode. I did the steps above but was still stuck.

The solution that worked was one posted by "Slaughter" on anythingbutipod.

The ultimate fix for all e2xx v1 problems - Format, enter recovery mode, downgrade firmware Link (you'll need to format the drive), reinstall newest firmware via newest Sansa Updater, reload tunes.

Frozen while on the refresh database screen

Try holding the power button for about 15-20 seconds. This usally shuts the whole thing down.

It may refresh the database as normal next time.

Refresh Datadase frozen

I had this exact same problem! I had it frozen for 3 weeks then i did this I guantee it works! Really it does. _________________________ Disconnect the player from the computer if it is connected. Please copy and paste the following link into your web browser address bar, and then click Go or hit your Enter key. When prompted, choose the option to Save the file to your Desktop. http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe Once you have downloaded the file, please follow these instructions. 1) Double click on My Computer so that you can see it on your screen. 2) Turn the player off. 3) On the top of the player is a Hold switch, move it to the right (toward the headphone jack) so you see Orange. 4) On the left hand side of the player is a Record button, press and hold it while connecting the player to the computer. Continue holding the Record button until you see a new icon under My Computer called 16MB FORMAT. Once you see that icon you may release the Record button. 5) Double click the file you downloaded earlier and run it. Follow all of the on-screen instructions, and when you get to the prompt where it asks you whether you would like to Format it, choose Yes. Once it is done, click Finish. 6) Disconnect the player and look at the screen. Several things will be displayed, and when you see Key Lock, System Shutdown, move the Hold switch on the top back to the left. 7) Turn the player on and watch the screen. If you see a Refresh Database Fail error, you will need to follow steps 1-7 again until you do not get the error. If it does not work the first time, it could take up to 3 times for it to work.
