AF after cleaning cycles??????????????????????????
AF means that the scanner flatcable is not connected to the main pcb (When powering up you should hear a grinding sound from the scanner area). Open the scanner cover as for changing the ink carts. Open the small cover (looks like a " L ") and connect the white flat cable simply by pushing it into the main pcb.

Have a look at the bk cart. Did you fix it well into position by clipping the support above the cart?
Can you see any difference by ink fuel before and after cleaning cycle? If there is no difference the valve is not open: drill a hole into the top cover and leave it open. Try another cleaning cycle again.

take all carts out. Unplug machine from power outlet. wait 5 min. leave scanner top open. rplug to power. wait til machine demands carts. reinsert and secure the carts. close cover. answer questions on display. set date and time again in case its not displayed.
If you still receive message use another cart of a diffrent brand. There are many generic carts with bad construction and bad ink out on market.
Best way: refill original brother carts. drill a 2mm hole on top into the brand name (O of brother). refill C/Y/M with a mix of 2ml 85%-glycerol (glycerin alc.) from drugstore and 10ml of DYE ink (shake well before refilling). For BK use 15ml DYE ink mixed with 1.5 ml gylcerol
shke very well before refill.

You need to contact brother regarding that error message. It simply means that your printer's purge counter is full and you just need to RESET it to ZERO. I already have a post regarding this "unable to clean" error but it is for Brother DCP-150C. I also got it from a Brother Tech Support. So I think the commands in my previous post is different since you've got a different model. Better ask a Brother Tech Support for the procedure in resetting the purge counter.
Anyway, this is the post, if the sequence is right for your device, then this will work:
1. To enter MAINTENANCE Mode: Press MENU, MONO START, 4X on ARROW UP. (within 2 seconds).
2. Using arrow up button look for the following:
a. 8 then press SET/OK
b. 0 then press SET/OK
3. Using MONO START, just press it until the word "PURGE XXXXX" comes out.
4. Using arrow up button look for the following:
a. 2 then press SET/OK
b. 7 then press SET/OK
a. 8 then press SET/OK
b. 3 then press SET/OK
This is to reset the purge counter. Then press stop/exit
5. Using arrow up button look for the following:
a. 0 then press SET/OK
b. 1 then press SET/OK (To reset unit)
a. 9 then press SET/OK
b. 9 then press SET/OK (To exit Maintenance mode)
