Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I have an Infocus SP 4805 projector, after a few months of non-use i turned it on and the fan started up, lights were on, it beeped a bit as it typically does on startup, then it went dead and nothing turns on. There is no sign of life whatsoever, i've plugged it into other outlets, switched out power cords, etc. any suggestions? Thank you!

Hello

Your Infocus projector has trouble with its power supply section. It is equipped with Switched Mode Type power supply, usually known as SMPS. To repair it you have to open the projector. You must have tools to open it, more patience and confidence. Moreover, it is most sophisticated entertainment item, parts are costly and sometimes difficult to get.
In my opinion, if your are fully aware of its construction and circuit, it is better for you get it repaired by any well experienced technician. Its SMPS circuit board is located in a place that you must open it and unassemble most of its components to access it. Still you wants to repair it by yoursef, inform me through Fixya. I'll assist you. OK.

Happy New Year

If you have not already found out, your problem may be a Light Tunnel Failure. It is common and can be corrected DIY. Replacement part is nearly non-existent and manufacturer repair is expensive.
For additional info go to www.avsforum.com and search for "4805 Light Tunnel". You will find threads about the problem as well as fixes. I also posted a DIY replacement option as well:

Powering On
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector is having a hard time powering on or doesn't power on at all, it could be one of two things. Due to the extreme temperature of the lamp that causes the temperature of the projector to rise, every InFocus 4805 projector has a cooling system. Check your projector's cooling solution, as it may need to be replaced. Also check the projector's fan---if the fan doesn't spin, the unit will not turn on. If the problem is the fan, you'll have to get it replaced. You can do this at the same place you bought your projector.
  • The Lamp
  • If your InFocus 4805 Projector powers on but does not project any light, the lamp will need to be replaced. All projector lamps must be replaced at some point---how often usually depends on how much use the device gets. Simply order a replacement lamp, unscrew the old one and screw the new one in. The projector will then work like new.
  • Color Wheel
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector powers on and is displaying images but the colors on the images appear warped or are not in the proper places, your "color wheel" will need to be replaced. The color wheel is a small device that essentially acts like a prism. Light is projected through it and it displays the appropriate colors on screen the way they appear in the original video source. Order a replacement color wheel that fits your model and use your instruction manual as a guide as you swap the old one out and put the new one in.

Hi we have an infocus 4805 and had to store it (very carefully) for 5 months. Now when we come to use it there is a light for about 30 secs if you look down the lens and then nothing. The bulb had hours of...

    Hi,
After storage for a while one of the fans may be stuck causing the over heat safety circuit to shut down the projector. Use a bright flashlight & look in vented areas for fans & use a popsicle stick, thin plastic straw or suitable while unplugged (do not use anything metal) & give all the fans you see a little push to turn them around some. Also remove the lamp cover & remove the lamp & push the cooling fan inside the lamp compartment to loosen it up. Put the lamp back in & replace the cover & then plug it back in, wait 5 minutes then try starting it up again.
Just one of many things that can be wrong but worth a try. Good Luck,
    Jim

How do i find out if i need a new lamp for my infocus 4805. when i turn it on the fan blows for a cpl secs and the green light blinks a few times, but i dont get anything saying the lampis out

when you power it on, do you hear a high-pitched whir? if not, you need to replace the colorwheel. it's also the colorwheel if you hear a buzzing instead. if the colorwheel does not spin, the lamp won't come on. if the colorwheel is ok, check the lamp. is the screen on the side of the lamp clogged with dust? is the inside of the lamp bulging, spotted, or foggy? if so, replace the lamp and clean out your projector with canned air. dust blocks air flow and keeps in the heat. this shortens the life of your lamp and projector. if you do need the colorwheel replaced, you could get the part from an infocus service center and do it yourself, or send it in for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com
