How do i replace my alternator in my 2004 nissan maxima?

Basically first check battery voltage under load with headlights, fan etc on and give about 2500 rpm and check battery voltage with digital meter and expect to see about 12 volt range if Alternator faulty. If ok would be 14 volts approx.
Assuming battery voltage low. First remove negative battery terminal and proceed to take of drive belt by taking strain of belt by slackening tensioner on belt then remove and check belt for cracks etc on inside once removed. if damaged replace. Proceed and remove cowls, bolts etc as required to remove alternator. Before removing disconnect wires on Alternator. Assemble in reverse to above. Just a basic outline of how to do it.

How do you slacken off the ac compressor to fit a new belt on chevy van g30

The serpentine belt tension is maintained 'automatically' by a spring-loaded tensioner. The tensioner in this vehicle is rotated CCW to release tension. There should be a tool available at Autozone or similar to grab the tensioner bolt, turn it and while holding it, slip the belt off of a small pulley (e.g. alternator). Note the routing of the belt before you take it clear off, or refer to the decal on the fan shroud.

Probably you cannot. From memory you will have to release the tension from the generator to replace the belt.

How to put in 2003 chevy calvlier alternator my self

1) Open driver's door window (in case the car auto-locks shut), remove keys from car's interior, and disconnect the vehicle's battery's negative terminal wire and tuck it away, making sure it cannot touch the battery negative terminal (you might wrap it in a cloth, just to make absolutely sure) (make sure you have any stereo security codes, before disconnecting this). Also make sure you have any alarm system turned off, or have the key to do so.

2) Remove the alternator drive belt. Serpentine belt types require a spring tensioned pulley to be forced against spring pressure, away from the belt in order to remove the belt (MAKE SURE you take careful note of this belt's route for easy refit. Take a photo if necessary!). Traditional tensioners require a locking bolt to be slackened and then an adjustment bolt to be slackened, plus affixing bolt to be slackened in order to freely remove the belt.
3) Disconnect the wires from the back of the alternator unit. You may typically have one plug connector and one or two heavy duty wires on the back.

4) Remove any remaining alternator fixing bolts which are keeping it affixed to the engine block, and remove alternator.

1) Locate alternator position and lightly screw in all affixing bolts (do not tighten if using traditional type, manual tensioner). Tighten if using a serpentine belt tensioner (spring loaded type).

2) Re-attach all wiring and check for tight connections.

3) Replace drive belt. If using traditional tensioner, then manually adjust the belt tension so that you can twist the belt to about 90 degrees when tight, no further.

4) Clear the engine bay of all tools, reconnect vehicle battery negative lead.

5) Restart vehicle.

6) Listen for belt squeal (may need tightening further if manually adjusted). Take note of dashboard charge warning indicator. If illuminated, then check battery connections and alternator connections.

7) If you have a multimeter, then check voltage across battery terminals with vehicle running. Voltage should measure around 14Volts with a healthy alternator fitted.

8) After running for a few minutes, stop engine and recheck belt tension if using a manual tensioner. BE CAREFUL of any hot areas as these may burn. If in doubt, then wait until the engine is cold and re-adjust if necessary.

Job Done!

Good luck!

How do you change an alternater belt

require to loosen of alternator mount bolts. Slide the alternator towards the rear of the car, this will slacken off the belt. Remove alternator belt and feed over the harmonic balancer and fan.Fit new belt. Slide alternator foward untill their is around 10-15 mm deflection in the belt, and tighten alternator mount bolts again to secure belt and tension. Recheck tension after about 500kms

How do i change a alternator for a escort van 1.8 diesel van

This is for a 1999 1.8 Diesel 55 Escort Van.

You have to remove a few parts but its not a major dilema. Almost all work needs to be carried out from under the van, so it needs jacking up.

1. Disconnect battery. Loosen bolts on FR wheel, jack up high and take wheel off. MAKE SURE HANDBRAKE IS ON AND WORKING!!!

2. Inside the wheel arch is a cover that goes over the alternator, three bolts to remove.

3. From under the van you will see a tension wheel keeping the belt tight. It requires a star shaped fitting to loosen, if you dont have one you can use a small ratchet piece that grips it.

4. Once belt is loose remove the two nuts holding the tension wheel in place. Keep to one side and remember how it goes back.

5. You now have access to the three bolts holding the alternator in place. Its tight and a little tricky but persevere and they will come out.

6. Wiggle the old unit out, unbolt the two wires on the alternator, bolt back onto the new unit.

7. Do the rest in reverse. When putting tension back on the belt do not over tighten, belt should just feel firm.

Remember to connect the battery again! And use a volt meter to test battery. You should get around 14v with engine running.
