I can't access my Wii systems menu to format it out....I only have a black screen, with sound no picture what so ever! I've changed my av cables, I've tried it on another TV...it seems to be something simple I just can't figure out what it is!

Pressing and holding the power button is not working, nothing comes up on the screen, still just a black screen.

You will need to Format the Wii System Memory. This option is used to delete ALL Channels and ALL saved data that have been added and will wipe your system memory clean.

To delete ALL Channels and save data
  1. Access the Wii System Settings screen
  2. Click on the left blue arrow twice to reach the Wii System Settings "3" menu options.
  3. Select "Format Wii System Memory."
  4. If Parental Controls are set, enter the PIN.
  5. If you are sure you want to erase the system memory, select "Format."

Check your Audio Video cables and make sure they are plugged into the TV and Wii. Next, flip the channels on the TV until you are on number 3 or the A/V setting.

Press and hold the power button for ten seconds

My Wii has a red light when plugged in, and a green one while turned, on, the problem is, nothing is displayed on the tv or heard, also, the disk drive whirrs for a few second after turning on. The tv...

If the light is red, it means WiiConnect24 is turned off. Green means the system is turned on and it's normal for the Wii to whirr a bit when it's initially turned on.
Completely power down your system by pressing the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, unplug the AC Adapter from the Wii for a moment, then plug it back in.
That said, Nintendo recommends calling them if this doesn't fix your problem. Hope this helps.

Wii light is on but the Wii won't function.

Try the Wii "RESET".
Here's how:
1. Unplug the Wii for at least 5 minutes.
2. Plug it back in.

WII CONSOLE

When you turn the Wii on, and the light goes from red or orange to green, press A a few times (this would be to get through the warning/safety screen) then wait a minute. Then when you wave your remote about, you will feel it vibrating as it goes over the channel icons on the wii menu screen. Plus a blue light will be lit at the bottom of the remote to denote player 1.

If all of this happens, it is just a lead or TV input issue. If these things do NOT happen, the Wii is broke and needs fixing by Nintendo!

Power is on but screen is black

I found this [temporary] solution at http://www.wiierror.com/wii-black-screen.php:

(via email, thanks Steven) This happened to me once, but I fixed it. Here is how:
Eject the disk
Unplug the wii at the back
Wait 1 minute
Plug it back in
Turn it on from the remote
Press reset if it does not show up
Hold the power button to shut it off
Turn it on once more.
I don't know how, but it seemed to work for me. The problem happened when I was trying to load the Mii channel. Hope this helps !

(via email, thanks Andrew)
The first time I shut down my Wii, the light went orange (as it should). When I turned on the power with my wii remote the next day, the wii\'s light turned green but the screen was black.
The treatment was the same as from Black Screen, No Connection: Unplug the Wii\'s power supply unit, then replug; turn system on with wii remote.
The difference is: this problem can strike in more places than just by loading the Mii Channel. Also, I think the green light being on (yet there being a black screen) is a common symptom as well.
