Fridge only cools to 55 deg F

My fridge only cools to 55 deg F. The upper left corner of the fridge cool air vent has ice comming out of it. I beleive this is related to what is happening in the freezer. The freezer has an ice maker and it is frosted up as well as the top two shelves. It makes ice great. We never had frost before this happened. The very bottom of the freezer has water which has iced up. I beleive the automatic defrost drain hose is iced up causing the water at the base. I've turned off the ice maker and plan to defrost the unit completley for the 2nd time now. Before the 1st time I defrosted it the fridge would only go to 66 deg F. After that it worked fine for about two weeks. Any suggestions what could be causing this to happen. I think it may be related to the ice maker but I'm not sure.

Make sure the drain line for the freezer is clear. You can access it from the back.Use something flexible you can push all the way thru till you see it sticking out of the drainhole at the back bottom of the freezer. That should cure your ice on the bottom of the freezer problem. For the ice on the air vent in the fridge, mine did that last week.Use a blow dryer and blow into the vent and around the housing till the ice melts. You should feel a noticeable increase in teh amount of cold air volume that comes out of the vent when finished.

Freezer compartment freezes okay to at least -5 degrees fridge will not cool below 17 degrees

Typically, the fridge gets its cool air via a vent from the freezer. If this vent becomes blocked, then the fridge won't cool. If there is nothing obvious blocking the vent (like a plastic bag) on either side then it is possible the vent is clogged with ice. To fix this, move your food to a cooler and unplug the fridge long enough for the ice to melt (12-24 hours).

Freezer is working, crispers are cool, fridge is not...55 degrees even at the highest cool temp.

Typically the fridge gets its cool air from the freezer via a vent. There is likely something blocking that vent like ice. Move your food to a cooler and turn off the fridge long enough for the ice to thaw (12-24 hours).
If this does not resolve the problem then dismantling of the vents for cleaning will be required.

My freezer is working fine but by refrigerator is not working. how can that be with a maytag side by side?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Swan fridge freezer-freezer dones,nt get down to temperature but fridge is working fine.if you turn up the thermostat the fridge acts like a freezer

There is a damper door that opens and closes when you move the thermostat. I would bet the door is functioning incorrectly. All the cooling of a refrig comes from the freezer and gets blown into the refrigerator compartment. If that damper door is open too far it will have constant freezer air blowing in....and if it's not open enough obviously the refrig will not get cool. Look at the upper left corner of your refrigerator, the center rear wall of the refrig or just feel around for a vent will cool air blowing out of it......Then take it apart and see if anything is broken.

Warm fridge

If you are sure the fan is running either the damper motor (vent in fridge section) is bad and not opening or there is ice in the return vents and not letting air circulate. Take out the bottom drawers in the fridge and look down the two return vents in each corner with a flashlight. If they are iced up the top will not cool.

Warm Fridge Section

sounds like the evaporator fan in the freezer is not moving the air. also there is an air damper door at the top center of the fridge that controls air flow from the freezer to the fridge. check those two components and you will find your problem.
