SOURCE: beater bar motor will not engage

Check your clutch to make sure it's engaged. There should be a knob on the foot of the vacuum that can be turned to stop the roller.

SOURCE: beater bar doesn't turn

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

SOURCE: The beater bar is not

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 Animal. The brush control system is designed to make a ratcheting noise to warn you if something jams the brushbar. To ensure everything is correct with your machine, please follow the quick troubleshooting checks shown in our online support guide:

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing upright, or if you have the brush control set to 'Hard Floors'.

This should allow you to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed the steps shown in the support guide and are still concerned, please call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to establish the cause of the issue, and will be able to recommend the best course of action.

    Kind regards,

      Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties resetting your DC18's brushbar. Please check that you've followed all the steps shown in the video below. Please also ensure that when testing the cleaner, you have it reclined into the vacuuming position, as the brushbar will not run when the cleaner is standing upright.

      SOURCE: beater bar is not

Worked for me thanks very very much! I always try this button and it didn't work. Pulled the head off, cleaned out any fuzz, hair, etc. Still didn't turn on the beater bar. Cursed, cried, etc. Found you here (even after trying the dyson site!) and got the solution. I had to push that button in harder than I've ever had to. Nearly thought I broke it off. Tada!! It worked. Thank you!!! Now where the kleenix?

      Beater bar wont spin

hello rud.... this is due to either a broken belt or lots of carpet fibers or pet fur in the beater bar mechanism. turn it off, unplug it and then turn it on it's side and check to see if the bar turns freely by hand. if it does, you will have to replace the belt assembly.... most dyson's have the belt built in to a plastic housing forcing you to buy a pricey part. Hello. i only have one arm and am trying to figure out why my beater bar wont turn on my dyson dc14. the belt smells a little too. thanx, trixie

Sounds like the beater bar is frozen in place. This sometimes happens when the ends of the bar become stuck in the holders. The solution is to remove the beater bar and clean the small holders on each end removing any debris that has built up. Spray with a little WD40 and then manually rotate the beater brush around the holders until it is free, then replace. Be sure the belt is installed properly.

      Beater bar will not turn

if the beater bar wont turn on when you switch it from floors to carpets ( the knob near the bottom of the machine, and on the right side of it when your facing the machine ) then its probably the clutch mechanism that drives the belt, you will need to take it to a vac shop to have it fixed.

Vacuum turns on and suction in hose works, beater bar won't turn

If you hear the motor in the head running and the beater bar isn't rotating, you probably need a drive belt. With the power off, make sure you can rotate the beater bar freely by hand, if it isn't bound up.. then locate and remove the baseplate screws to gain access to the beater bar itself, you'll see a drive belt pulley system and chances are, a broken belt. Replace it with a new one by pulling the beater bar assembly out of the housing and plcing the belt onto the motor shaft pulley as well as the beater bar pulley.. nest the beater bar back into the holder and reinstall the cover. Hope that helps !
