Question about Loewe Aconda ACO9303 30" TV

Rounded Picture My TV recently started to have a problem. The picture becomes rounded at the top and bottom. I have no skill in electronic repair so I need to know what option would be best: Should I have a repairman fix or just buy a new TV.

There is a Service menu that can be accessed by pressing the press the furthest right small black button on the front panel, on any Loewe CRT. Menu pops up on screen, using remote, scroll to “SERVICE” them press “M” on remote – not the OK button. Now you are into the service menu. Scroll to Geometry and press “OK”. There are various screen the adjustments - I would guess it is EW AMPLITUDE - also known as Vertical Spooning. The effects can be altered by pressing the LEFT or RIGHT arrow volume button on the Loewe remote. Make a note as to where the values are when you start in case you need to return and any change you decide to make must be followed by pressing the OK button or it will not saved. Pressing MENU will get you out of the SERVICE screen. Try not to fiddle with other parameters or you could make problems worse.

If not consult a technician.

Were the inverters separate from the power supply? If so, the power supply may be a fault. Most TV's and Monitors suffer from Bad Capacitors, which can be identified due to them "swelling", the tops become rounded instead of flat. When this happens, the capacitor has failed, and can cause the hum, due to more ripple in the power out from the PSU. Also check you reattached the earth cable, if you had to remove it when replacing the board. Many are clamped to the metalwork with a screw.

If you have soldering skills, you can buy replacement caps cheap, and replace them yourself. Failing that, you're looking at a PSU board.

The top half of my pictures with a flash are shaded.

Not seeing the pictures I have to guess. If the shade you mention is not like a straight line, but more rounded, try making the picture without the lens hood. Or use a external flash, when you use another than the standard lens. I don't think you can take a picture in manual, with a shutter speed above 1/250 second, because in such case the top or bottom part could become shaded then, but then the shade is in a straight line from left to right.

Akai 42" LCD TV - Bad Picture

there is a weakness in the power, this could be power board or the main av board. the capacitors would be the main problem as they control the voltage around the power board and also on the av board. you maybe able to see the problem if the capacitors caps have rounded at the top, but on the av board this is harder to notice as they dont go rounded at the top they need checking with a meter to see if the voltage is right coming out onto the board. these are called smd capacitors and are soldered to the top of the board and a lot smaller than normal capacitors. a visual look at the power board would be needed to see if there is a problem

Open the screen and on the backside there are two pcb's.
Left is the power conversion unit and right is the hardware for the display. I had the same problem. So on the left one you will find a lot of capacitors (ELCO). Look for those ones with a rounded top. note their capacity and current (most fragile are the 16V470uF and 16V1000uF). Replace the ELCO's with rounded tops. NOTE THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SIDES!!! DONT SWAP THESE or you will end up with another one with a rounded top. Solder it all together and close the screen. Your problemo is solvento!

Replacement of the board is never recommended, unless the board caught fire and is all burned up. If the convergence circuits quit working then you still see a picture, but the 3 colors just dont line up with each other. The picture shutting off, closing in and then popping back to full suggests a loose solder joint in the horizontal deflection circuits. This is something that cannot be adjusted in the service mode and the repair should be handled by a qualified tech.

No my freind, im afraid that you have bad waveshaper capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit in your TV set. This is not an adjustment. you should have a pro assist you with the repair of this set as it is dangerous because of the high voltage inside these sets.
