This is a problem due to the various extensions that a video can have, as well as the music files for that DVD or file. I recommend downloading K-Lite Codec Pack, which has solved problems for me, and many of my friends and family.

Here's the website where you can download the installation:

"G2M3 codec" I get the above

If you are trying to view the video on a DVD player then your stuffed - it will not work - the codec is missing, This is usualy associated with videos such DivX or .avi's etc. The best bet is to view it on your PC if you can. If Windows media player does not work then simply download VLC for free - this allows you to view everything! It is like having a master key for all Codec's. The one I prefer can be found at http://gofree.com/download/Video/Media-Players/vlcmediaplayer.php?gclid=CICP4KPR4qcCFYi8KgodGV-q9Q

Good luck - and please "rate me" if you found the above useful.

When ltry to open some video file .avi it says not supported codec cvc1 missing

CVC1 videos seem to be produced with ManyCam virtual webcam 2.5.x or lower. Install http://hotfile.com/dl/63342325/cb9b05d/ManyCam_Virtual_Webcam_2.5.68.exe then open your video with windows media player (newer version >= 2.6 wont work)

Every time i open the GOM player it would ask for "FIND codec"

GOM Player includes many codecs (XviD, DivX, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, H263) Along with different media format such as AVI, MPG, MPEG and DAT, GOM Player also supports streaming Windows media format (WMV, ASF, ASX).

Possible Reason:

* Ensure that you have downloaded a genuine version and not a broken file, which is likely to miss some codecs, GOM is a FREE media player with popular audio & video codecs built-in. So you won't need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, GOM Player will find one.

* Without the appropriate codec, you'll be prohibited from playing AV files/the codec for which the file you are playing is missing (playback error), which prompts you to "Find Codec" screen. In the case you need other codecs, the 'Find Codec' popup will assist you in searching for the correct codec to play your file. If you didn't find any: first reason is likely to be the issue.

Fixes:

*Search Result will be shown on a new internet page. Once youve found it, simply download and install to watch the AV files.

Missing codec - how to view asf files on windows

If you haven't already, download and install VLC media player. https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ It's free, open source and it plays most codecs with no codec packs needed. After that, just follow the instructions provided in the link below. https://features.en.softonic.com/vlc-media-player-as-video-converter

My acer laptop was formated, since I got it back I cant play any dvd nor cd... I do have media player but message appear stating that the following files cant be played..

Yes, you have missed the codec files.

Download "Windows essentials Codec pack", below is the link

http://download.softpedia.ro/dl/7dd4bba62e0c22582981d1a9546796dc/4b45cc15/100071211/software/MULTIMEDIA/VIDEO/DIVX/WECPSetup.exe

Install this, you will be able to play almost all files in your windows media player.

I recommend you use VLC player, it can play any file formats both Audio or Video without any Codec and moreover it's completely open source. Below is the VLC player download link

http://www.videolan.org/mirror-geo.php?file=vlc/1.0.3/win32/vlc-1.0.3-win32.exe

That's it

I cannot open my videos (taken on Aiptek DV4100 M) on Windows Media Player (running Vista), The error message is ''missing codec''. I've looked but seems this camcorder is too old (or cheap) to be able to...

Windows media player does not have the video codec to play it. Download and Install DivX on your machine, it has a universal codec and it is free. Once installed try to play it back on Windows media player. You can try VLC player as well.

Hope this helps.
