Type on a multi page form, if the carbons are good you have aribbon feed pr lift problem. If no good then the plastic print solenoid cap is broken. We sell them with instructions and shipping for 20.00.

Type on a two part form if the carbons are goog then you have a ribbon problem. Look at the ribbon. Do the letters overlap (ribbon feed) If they don't fall in a line near the center of the ribbon (ribbon lift) Check for folds in the ribbon.

could be a defective ribbon, try new one if it looks like the letters are almost typing on top of each other on the ribbon. it could be a problem with the ribbon drive of the printhammer. if a new ribbon doesn't help, get professional help.

Hello,

Hi

Many brother type writers have two cam assemblies under ribbon holder. One operates the print hammer and the other operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes they gets stuck or lock themselves up. turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a tech. If you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon.

Let us know if you want to know something more else please accept the suggestion.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

Typing only partial letters

The ribbon is probably not in the guide properly, or is not coming up all the way. Switch the ribbon selector from blk /red and back a few times. If the ribbon is in wrong rethread it. If it is electronic, the ribbon is in wrong.

Only part of the character types on the page

EITHER YOUR RIBBON IS FAULTY OR THE RIBBON DRIVE ON YOUR MACHINE IS FAULTY. LETTERS ARE PRINTING ON PART OF SAME RIBBON AS PREVIOUS LETTER
