Model LN52A550P3FXZA. Video and audio cycle on and off every 30 seconds or so. When picture switches off, the screen is filled with multi-color horizontal lines.

It is a common problem for this model, the problem is the main board. There are 2 Tantalum capacitors (C102 & C131) 47MF/10V, 1 Passive Voltage regulator KIA7805AF (IC300), 1 Step-Down Power Conveter IC MP2363DN (IC101) need to be replaced. If you do not have soldering skills, just order a new board.

I have an Apex LD4088. It has power, but has no video or audio

In fact it is dead. Just make a hard reset to it and check. Unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket and re-plug it back after 10 minutes or so. This must make it a hard reset. It this do not help you, the main power inverter board should be checked for fault. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center.

I get a thin blue line horizontal line then nothing

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Depending on the model, on most CRT type TV units, a single (left to right) line indicates failure of the vertical deflection circuitry.  Almost always this would be caused by a faulty vertical output IC.  Repairs involve replacement.  It most be noted though that in some instances, similar symptoms maybe exhibited by:
  • cold solder on any of the pins of the IC or related components;
  • leaky or dried up capacitors;
  • absence of the +20VDC supply from the secondary of the FBT.
Options then are:
  • consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if very familiar with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe working practices with high voltages. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be an advantage;
  • should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of an authorized Service Center (specially if still under warranty) or a qualified professional.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

All of a sudden only a line down the center

Hi, it is possible that you have a cold solder or a loose connection on the printed circuit board or a defective component. If it is vertical -- line, then it could also possibly be the vertical IC, a defective capacitor (or probably even just a resistor); If it is horizontal, then it could possibly be a high voltage capacitor, any part of the horz deflection circuitry. Both cases involve opening the unit, determining the defective component, desoldering, replacing defective component, soldering. Unless you are very comfortable working with soldering iron, multi testers and know how to check comp[onent/parts, yopu are probably better off asking a qualified service personnel to perform the repairs for you. One other thing, if banging on the set restore it to operation (even if for just a while), then is definitely a cold solder. Hopes this be of some help to you. Good luck.

Lost audio & video

You say that you lost audio and video but the screen is blue. That indicates that the majority of the circuits are working OK. To display anything on the screen the high voltage and drive circuits would be working ok. Try an input other than cable (the tuner input) and see what happens. If your unit works through those inputs then you have a bad tuner or matrix IC. If that doesn't give you any results then you probably have a microprocessor issue. The bad news is that Apex does not support their equipment so if the problem is not simple it will probably not be reparable. Good luck.
