Hello, i need to know how to change the lower element in my rheem 40 gal. water heater

Rheem uses a 4-bolt 4500 Watt element available at hardware store and some home centers:
To confirm wattage, see label on side of tank. Also note you label shows gallons, and show a serial number that has date of manufacture in fist 4 digits, for example 0605.. is June 2005.

The element is removed using a wrench. Remove 4 bolts. If bolts are stuck, then use WD40 and ratchet with extension. You can also drill out the bolt and re-tap holes with new thread. Don't drill through wall of tank which is about 1/4" thick.

For generic step by step for replacing water heater element and cleaning out tank:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-water-heater-element.html
Link shows how to drain tank, check if electricity is off, and general sequence of steps.
Rheem element that you buy comes in package with specific step by step for replacing that element. Be sure to clean opening of any debris before installing new element.

How do I change the heating element on my 50 gallon electric Reliance 501 hot water heater? Where can I get the heating elements?

Buy elements at local hardware store or home center, like Lowes
Look at label on side of tank.
Label shows element wattage.
Element is also printed on end of element in tiny letters-numbers.
Typical elements are 4500 and 5500 watts.
Tank needs 10 gauge wire and 30 amp breaker for 5500 watt element.

Water heaters are fully repairable by homeowner.

1) Have you tested water heater to see if element is problem? You need cheap multi-meter from Home Depot.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html

2) To change element
a) turn off power
b) drain water from drain valve ... once it starts draining, loosen element slightly while tank still has weight to hold against you turning element wrench.
Here's what to do if water heater won't drain:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-will-not-drain.html
c) open covers on tank, remove element using element-wrench from hardware store or home center.
If element won't come out:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-remove-old-water-heater-element.html
d) Clean out tank if needed.
e) Replace element.
f) Fill tank entirely with water before turning on power or element will burn out.
g) Once tank is filled, and water flows steady out of tub spout, turn on power.
Each steps above is shown on following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-clean-sediment-out-of-electric-water-heater.html

3) You need to buy some things:
Screw-in type (not bolt-in type) Element that matches wattage on tank label. New Element comes with washer.
Inexpensive Element wrench.
Inexpensive multimeter if you are going to test parts first.
Some pieces of pipe and hose if tank sediment needs to be cleaned out.
Washing machine hose if tank will not drain (return after job is done).

4) Also:
You need flat tip and phillips screwdriver.
Lighting to work on tank
Some WD-40 if element is stuck in place.
Garden hose to drain tank.
Shop vac and duct tape if you need to vacuum out sediment.
Tarp to protect floor and carpet
Maybe a knife to cut back insulation on wire if wire is burned at element.

Web links above go through entire process step by step.
Add a comment if you need more help, I'll be back around 5 CST

Do all Hobart dishwashers have a element in them for wash water and rinse water

All Hobart dishwashers will have a wash tank heating element, but the rinse water is not heated by the dishwasher, unless it has a built-in booster heater. Usually a separate booster heater is used to heat rinse water to 180-190 deg. F for hot water sanitation.

Not heating water up more than 80 degrees

Hello,
There are 2 heating elements, one for the Rinse tank/boiler and one for the wash tank check that the rinse tank heater has not tripped out can be reset if they have one on that model.Or one of the elements may have burnt out.You will find thermostats for both behind panel under door.

Hope this helps.

No heat on rinse cycle HOBART AM14C Dishwasher

3 Con, is the booster heat contactor. If it is chattering, the fault will be in the booster. There are a few different boosters in the AM14. can you post the ML number from the data plate, or describe if the booster is a square Hatco HCM-10, or a round stainless booster with a 13 kw multi wired element.. All boosters use a low water cut off circuit, a high limit thermostat and a control thermostat. The old Hatcobooster uses mechanicqal components, where the new rount tank uses probes and a control board. The board has 3 leds. red is calling for heat, yellow is open thermistor, and green is shorted thermistor.
AM14's had a variety of different control circuit voltages, ranging from 240/208/120 and 24 volt AC. Check the transformer secondary for correct output to controls, trace through circuit until voltage pulses. If new style, it could be just scaled up probes not reading water. Drain the tank with the power off before removing probes.

Heats up water slowly, only by repeated operation

The wash tank element should be operated through a 3 or pole contactor which gets its power only when the rinse tank has come up to temp and switched the thermostat over(rinse tank heating takes priority). Is the rinse tank element fully intact ie-is it pulling its full amperage or is part of the element blown causing it to take longer to heat? Is the rinse contactor dropping in when the thermostat for the rinse tank is turned fully down? It sounds like a thermostat or contactor problem- good luck and let me know how you get on. Kitcheneer
