The phone does not do anything when hooked to the charger. I tried both with and without the battery as instructed in the response.

  • jainman Jul 08, 2008

I can put the sim card into another phone and it works. Could it still be a sim card problem?

  • jainman Jul 08, 2008

I tried the wotanserver.com and that solution did not work.

  • jainman Jul 08, 2008

I have continued to try to wonton client solution. It finds my phone and gives me the info down to the FC ID but after that it does not give me the EROM information or anything else afterwards. It just says "invalid account" after it lists the FC ID info.

Go to your provider's store and have them test the sim card. If the phone is under warranty, you can get a warranty phone for free.
Thanks,

Try getting the phone reformatted. It's possible it's a software problem. The memory card as well.

If the sims card works in another machine, it isn't the card. My advice, take it to your cell provider, tell them you read forums on the problems with these, and demand them replace it at no additional charge. If you tell them you know about the problems, even if you don't or there aren't any, they usually won't try to BS you.

HI,

It is possible that the software has a bug that crashes the e-rom in the phone from what I can tell and it prevents it from starting up.You can try debranding your phone with the help of a USB cable and the program which you can download it from HERE

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution.

No power, new batt, hopefully it is not a hardware issue but it sound like the EROM got clipped.

you may need to flash the erom on the phone

go to http://www.wotanserver.com and download the client, open it up, delete the user and password fields at the bottom so they are blank, take the battery out the phone and then put it back, click start, hold down keys 2+5 and connect USB the cable, this should update the erom and make the phone work again.

if this did not do any good, get the phone checked by sony or a local repair shop.

good luck

If your phone has a SIM card, take it in to the dealer and have them test the SIM card to see if it can be read. It may have locked on you.

My buddy went through 3 of these in a month. Each time it was the same problem. The phone froze and it fried his sim card. AT&T replaced it each time giving him another and the same thing would happen. He finally gave up and got a blackberry.

If the phone still won't turn on, you will have to take it in for a replacement / warranty repairs assuming you still have that.

If you don't you have to take it to a local phone shop, ask where you can take it for service, they should direct you to someone / service center nearby.

  • Ekse Jul 08, 2008

so if warranty is still good contact your dealer, operator or a local service center.

Did you get a chance to read my post fully?

Sony W580i won't turn on. Blinking red light.

It turns out i found a solution to my problem. All you need to do is wait a few days and every day try turning it on several times. Mine turned on with 2% power. If you don't see the red light blinking then you probably need to charge it up then turn it on.

Sony Ericsson W580i is not working.

Try this and let me know if it works, if not, I will suggest something else.

Turn off the phone, take the battery out and let it sit there for thirty seconds. Replace the battery, power up the phone and try it again. That should fix the problem.

Will not read smartchip

I had the same problem but i fixed it. I'm not sure if this will work for you though. I took off the battery door and noticed that although my battery fit, it was somehow off by a few millimeters maybe. I took a tiny piece of paper, folded it and then fit it near the edge of the battery. This pushed the battery exactly where it should've been and then the phone could read the sim card again. I don't know how it got knocked outta wack but this seemed to help.
