Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

When any button is pressed on our copier/fax/scanner machine, the machine automatically copies. It doesn't matter whether the fax button is pressed or the density button or any other button. Thus we cannot fax or change any settings on our machine since all it will do is copy. I tried unplugging machine for about 20 minutes but problem still persists.

Copy machine is stuck in the copy mode

Sounds like the machine does not have a fax board on it. Have you been able to fax in the past?

If nothing else, try rebooting the machine, then have your servicing dealer come out to check the fax board module if rebooting doesnt help.

Copier quality

Hi,

Most fax machines would have a resolution selector to vary clarity of transmitted documents. The same would also hold true for scanning jobs. I would discount the possibility of the power supply since everything works except for the quality of the copy/fax. If the printer still works OK (quality of print out) then it is the scanner's availability to copy that is the issue. With current prices of all in one printers (fax/scanner), purchase of a new unit might be more practical not only in terms of cost but in downtime.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

We have epson bx300f, changed rooms and now have to sit and press buttons on machine to receive faxes where before they would come through automatically. How do I revert back to that setting?

Had a quick look and found that you may have turned off the auto-answer mode.

The way to set it back up is provided on page 5 of this manual:
ftp://download.epson-europe.com/pub/download/3217/epson321754eu.pdf

  1. Press Mode [Copy/Fax] to select Fax mode
  2. Press the up/down arrows to select "5.Fax Settings" then press OK
  3. Use the up/down arrows to select "5.Communication" then press OK
  4. Use the up/down arrows to select "4.Rings to Answer" then OK
  5. Use the up/down arrows to set the number of rings then (yep, you guessed it!) press OK
  6. Press the button for "Auto Answer/Space" (looks like a phone handset with the work "AUTO" next to it) to turn on Auto Answer Mode.
  7. Press OK (for the 4 millionth time it seems!)
  8. Finally, press "Menu" to return to the first screen in Fax mode.
Hopefully that will resolve your problem :)

Canon Fax Phone

It sounds like Tel/Fax mode is not set, but that the machine is likely in Fax Only mode. The JX200 has four modes of fax receipt - Fax/Tel, Manual, Answering Machine, and Fax Only. The Fax/Tel mode, which you have indicated is your desire, is meant to let the fax machine automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Documents are received automatically, and the machine rings for voice calls.

Set the mode by pressing [Receive Mode/Resolution]. Every time you press [Receive Mode/Resolution], the mode changes cyclically. If you set Fax/Tel mode, you can control precisely how the fax handles incoming calls by adjusting the following settings:
• Adjust the time the fax takes to check whether a call is from a fax machine or a telephone (<RING START TIME> setting).
• Adjust the length of time the fax rings when the call is a voice call (<TEL RING TIME> setting).
• Set whether the fax switches to receive mode after the ring time set in <TEL RING TIME> has elapsed (<DEFAULT ACTION> setting).
1. Press [Menu].
2. Use arrows to select <DATA REGISTRATION>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <USER SETTINGS>.
3. Use arrows to select <RX SETTINGS>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <ECM RX>.
4. Use arrows to select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <RING START TIME>.
5. Press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <8SEC.>
6. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax waits before ringing when it receives a call, then press [Start/Copy] twice. (This is the time the machine spends checking for a fax signal before ringing for the call to be answered as a telephone call.)
7. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax rings while waiting for someone to pick up the Handset, then press [Start/Copy] twice. The LCD displays <RECEIVE>.
8. Use arrows to select <RECEIVE> or <DISCONNECT>, then press [Start/Copy]. This setting tells the fax what to do if the Handset is not picked up within the specified ring time set in step 6.
9. Press [Stop].
Setting ends and the fax returns to standby mode. The machine will now handle calls as indicated in the settings you input.

Cannon Fax JX200

The JX200 has four modes of fax receipt - Fax/Tel, Manual, Answering Machine, and Fax Only. The Fax/Tel mode, which appears to be your setting, is meant to let the fax machine automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Documents are received automatically, and the machine rings for voice calls based upon the times that are input in the settings of the machine. It would seem that the best thing to do would be to lengthen the times involved - particularly at step 7 below. I would imagine it is set at a low number - perhaps 10 seconds or less - and needs to be increased to give you sufficient time to answer the call.

It may take a few rounds of going through these steps to get the settings just right for your situation, but it should definitely solve your problem. If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution.Thank you for using and rating FixYa!
