Question about HP Computers & Internet

HP Pavilion DV7 Laptop will not boot. Just get the sound of the dvd drive trying to run and occasionally the fan will kick on. Get the Caps lock and Number lock lights that flash about once every second or 2. This happened about 6 months ago and I replaced the CMOS battery and that seemed to work. We bought the thing in '08. I have tried removing the battery, removing all disconnectable parts - both HDs, both RAM cards, CMOS battery, and Wireless card. Held button down for 20 seconds or so to "reset" something. Powered it on with all of those components disconnected and I get the exact same result - blinking lights, dvd drive tries to run, and fan kicks on every once in a while. I plugged every one of them back in and tried again. Same result. The function keys do not work becasue the system never gets loaded far enough to use the keyboard. ???????

I tried each card individually and in each slot. Same result. I don't have an extra one on hand to try, so I guess I'll have to get one somewhere.

Tried two new RAM cards, still same result - blinking lights, dvd drive tires to run and fan runs off and on.

Your hard drive is at fault. It will not recognize the CMOS or BIOS to start. The best place to fiind a replacement hard drive is tigerdirect.com & ebay.com. Use your computers make and model number to find one if doing so. If you do nt need the huge gigabites in the hard drive get one a bit smaller to save some cash if purchased

This sounds like a Ram issue ...remove one by one the ram memory and let it power up with just one at the time and see which one is making trouble ...The removing of the battery when you replace it ..cleared the CMOS and this kicked a little on the memory and this is why it worked..
When the ram memory have an issue it just loops and never get to read the devices ..cause the ram memory is the first one to be read...and will not boot at all with a defective one ..
let me now what you have done ...
by the way ..it is a possibility that a power shock corrupted both Ram memories.so if you have another one in handy you may try to use it first to see if it boots up ...or ..try to see if you are lucky and only one of them burned out ..
when you handle them ..do not touch the modules by hand cause static electricity may harm them ...

Caps lock light blinking

Try removing and reseating the RAM.

Another possibility is that there may be a graphics chip failure or disconnexion or cpu, bios or other failure.

The screen will not power up on my hp pavilion dv7 4065dx

Count the blinks and pattern of the caps lock light flashing. They tell the technician what is going on with the system. If this is happening as soon as you press the power button you are probably having an issue with the Video Card, Memory or some other motherboard related issue.

Does the system seem like it is up and running? If not, it's definitely one of the three issues mentioned above.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the Memory Cover on the bottom of the laptop, then remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting. The link below will gives you the blink code listing from hp website. When it opens up scroll down to to see what the blinking lights pattern means as to the cause of your system not booting.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&rule=26781&product=3816592

My laptop when I power on, shows a blank black screen and the caps and num lock lights are blinking and the fan is running.

Your hard drive has probably gone bad and it does not have a bootable device to use on start-up.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-1130 Entertainment Laptop, and as of recently, when I try to turn it on, the lights around the keyboard power on and the fan runs, then the fan stops and the lights stay on. No...

With an extensive use of the notebook,
some times notebook would store some static charges which
indeed will stop the notebook from powering up or charging
the battery. The procedure to remove this static charges from
the notebook is known as power drain. Performing a power
drain procedure will not effect any personal data or delete
any pictures from the hard drive on your notebook.
I recommend you use Power Drain procedure by following these
steps:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.
