Question about Sceptre X9G Komodo IV 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

2 Answers

I recently acquired a sceptre x9g Naga V monitor which has developed a problem. It produces a wonderful image which may last 5 min or 5 sec, then goes black. If I turn it off or unplug the monitor the start it again, it comes up,but just like before, it shuts down somewhere between 5 sec & 5 min.

It may have dying power supply due to bad DC filter caps like the 17" version.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I have a Sceptre X9G-Naga II and two ceramic capacitors that are in the power supply are fried. The capacitors are C11 and C12. Anybody knows the value of these capacitors and where Can i get them?

I think they are MOVs in the primary AC side. Can you post the pictures, or send them to me at budmrtn@aol.com. Most MOV are blue in color, ceramic cap is usually orange/yelllowish color.

I recently came accross one of these monitors (Planar PE191M) with the identical issue. The resolution was to replace the two 470ufd 25V capacitors that are located on the main power board. The main power board also contains the audio circuit and more importantly the inverter circuit that drives the CCFL backlighting. The suspect caps were identified using an ESR meter; if you happen to have one of these meters you can confirm this is the issue with your unit(s), alternatively you can just replace the two capacitors and see if it resolves your issue. Hope this info helps someone out there.
