Out of the blue my Maxtor Storage II won't let me delete, create or overwrite files stored on it ? Drives appear ok and I can access files but seems to be locked in read-only for all files which I cannot change (option greyed out)

    Hello

I have exactly the same problem.

Files on MSS II drive cannot be deleted as soon as they are "read only" ones.

also , cannot change properties or ownership...

They are in the "public" folder on MSS II drive with no credentials needed to access.

    Thx for your attention.

Had the same problem since day 1. Copied all my business data onto the drive and then found I could not delete any files. Maxtor customer support was useless. My data was not encrypted so I could not return the unit to the store. Had to destroy the drive. Complete waste of money.

I had the same problem and eventually fixed it by deleting all the user accounts (except the admin one) on my MSSII. It looks like one of them somehow had these files open

I was just dealing with this problem. Well, at least now you know how secure linux is now. It is not easy to make changes to linux partitions if you don't have administrative rights. You need to be root and have administrative rights on the partition to make any changes on a partition. You also need a partitioner. If you have linux, download a partitioner. If you don't have linux you can use a Live CD.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Hi. I configured my Maxtor Shared Storage II with my home PC. Now the PC is dead. I tried to connect the other my PC (with Windows 7 as operating system) to Maxtor Shared Storage II, but the PC cannot see...

try and assign the drive a drive letter by right clicking on my computer and choose manage.
go to disk management
look for the maxtor hard drive.
if you see it listed there below you should be able to right click on it and assign a drive letter.
if you dont see it then it doesn't detect the hard drive. please check your hard drive connections and try again.

Hi I am looking for a motherboard for maxtor

ebay is going to be your best bet. Otherwise, you need to find the model number for said motherboard and scour the internet.

Another good place to look is your local electronics recyclers. We have several in SoCal. Recomp, Goodwill, Golden State Trading Co., etc.

If you're looking to revive the drive, you may be better off buying a new or used one. If you're looking o recover data, extract the drive and put it in another USB case, or directly to the computer.

Good Luck

Does maxtor 3100 storage automatically add file to itself?

Yes, it is wise to do a house cleaning on your Maxtor. Whether you delete everything or not is up to you. However, do not do this by formatting the hard drive.

If you find you need a file later you deleted from the drive, a free program called 'FileScavenger' can recover it for you. If you format the hard drive the ability to recover a file becomes highly unlikely.

We techs have expensive software to recover files should you need to get it retrieved, but the interface is designed for techs and not the average user.

If the .avi file was encoded using divX compression, you will need to install a codec. Try going here to install the xvid codec and run the avi file just like you would an mpeg. Hope that helps!
