I'd suggest that your memory or hard drive is going bad.
RAM issues are normally accompanied by a blue screen with a STOP 0xxxxx00038 (example) type of message or a Page fault type error, which is caused when windows loads, and the full potential of the Ram module is used, highlighting the fault with the module.

Try substituting a RAM module and see if this stops the problem, then, if you get it running, download MEMTEST and run it for an hour to check the ability of the ram to read and write information.

If the ram is ok, the fault may be with the hard drive, a faulty drive will not read the sectors that Windows is installed on and this might account for the constant rebooting. If you can remove the drive test it externally using a docking station or slave it to a working computer and download HDD check, which will test for any performance drop or bad sectors.

If you think that the Ram and HDD are ok, then obtain an external USB DVD drive and try a repair after setting the bios to boot from the USB drive

The picture was very dim and I removed the back panel and cleaned the lenses. Next, i slightly increased the the red color pot, there was a click and all three guns went out. Now there is no picture.

You should not adjust those knobs...Turn them back down - the ones marked "screen"...then power up and turn them up again slowly...if you go too far they will shut off again.

Once you get the tubes back on again as normal you can fix the original issue for dull video.

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Blue screen on start-up saying 'stop: c000007b bad image' etc

The odds are, you will need to replace the HDD. Best odds for data recovery are to get a new drive and a universal HDD adapter (here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Adapter-2-5IN-3-5IN-Sata/dp/B000QY9KIS)

Reinstall you operating system on the new drive then connect the old drive via the adapter and see if you can access the files you want to retrieve.

If that doesn't work, then you'll likely need to consult an expert like Drivesavers 800-440-1904 and see if you can afford a recovery of the data

Pink color should be blue also flashing screen

If you hear the hard drive spinning and you think Windows is working but you can't see an image then :-
You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :-
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Toshiba 20hlv15 image turns bright colors and will sometimes disappear.

I took the unit completely apart and reassembled it, making sure to check all harnesses. I have been running the TV since I put it back together and it has been fine so far (3 hrs.). I was hoping that it was just a loose harness4.gif when taking the unit apart. Although, I did not note a loose harness. The dvd1.gif player went wacky by just having the harness slightly off. I will run the unit some more and post my findings. I have to say I'm surprised that this is not a more common problem considering there are numerous people with this particular unit with the same issue. Also, just a note the unit was very clean inside, no dust issues, no blocked cooling ducts.
