The problem does still occurs on the menu screen. I changed to the different video outputs and it still occurs. The tv is Samsung model #HLP5063WX/XAA. It is 5 years old and had the color wheel replaced 2 years ago. Is this fixable or am I having to purchase a new tv.....I would rather not.

Hi.

Use the remote and recall the on screen menu. Check if the lines also affect the on screen menu, or only the video signal. If the problem is affecting the menu, then it is either DMD board or digital video processing in main controller board. If the problem does not affect the on screen display menu, then it is the input, the connected device, the internal tuner, or the terminal input board on TV.

I can be more specific by knowing TV make and model, and by getting a more detailed description of the problem (most common symptom is horizonthal rotating bands).

Regards.

Ginko.

Yep it is fixable, but it is expensive. Due to the nature of the problem my response is also not defininitive. From your account of the problem I think that the problem is the DMD board. This is the board located at the base of the colour wheel. The DMD board generates the picture through the DMD sensor. A defective DMD board will result in picture fragmentation and black bands.like the stripes you are describing.

The problem with the DMD board is that the part is expensive (about $500). If you add about $150/$200 labour the repair will not be really worth unless you find a working and reliable second hand spare.

Here all parts for this model.

    Hi.

I have sent my response already. The problem is almost for sure a defective DMD board. The part is expensive and there is always a little chance that more parts are involved. The TV is still worth repairing, but buying a new TV at this time could be a good investment.

Here my last comment: Re:"The problem does still occurs on the menu screen. I changed to the

    Hi.

    You are welcome.

If you decide to replace the TV I suggest also having a look at LCD TVs. Performance of DLP TVs is still slightly better than LCD (flat screen) TVs. On the other hand LCD TV are slightly cheaper to buy, and cost much less in energy bills.

    All the best.

    Ginko.

Yes,the problem is the colors wheel it dead. That one of the cause by the colors wheel, other are alots of squiling noises and making very loud buzzing sound. The cooling fan that u think is overheating, does it stop sometimes, when the tv is still on?Yes,than replaced it also,no than it still ok.Just hire the tv repairman, the parts he'll take care of it,don't order the parts,u might get the wrong parts or different sizes, that will not fit in ur tv.

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
