Hello,
This usually indicates that the filter capacitors in the power supply are not working right. When the unit is turned on they should build up a charge that lets the board power up the monitor but when they start to go out it takes longer and longer to get the charge built up. Here is a link to information on rebuilding the power supply board by replacing the capacitors, this should get you back up and running.

Screen flashes and sides squeeze in and out

If this is a CRT, then the horizontal deflection circuit is faulty.
The repair is generally not worth on CRT.

First try leaving monitor power cord unplugged for few hours, to discharge capacitors, sometimes this can fix minor problems.

Test also the display on different computers, you never know that this depends from a faulty video adapter.

More likely you will need to replace the screen.

I need help

Pin cushion on old CRT monitors (not the flat LCD type but the larger monitors) use to have a setting called that where it would look like the screen was being squeezed in the middle or pulled outward at all four corners. If you were to take a couch pillow and squeeze it in the middle, you would notice that the corners push outward and if you pull from the middle they retract inward.......that's sort of what pincushion settings do on your monitor. If you play with the setting you would see what I am talking about but on most newer monitors you should have a "auto" button that will calibrate everything for you. But again, this is something you usually will have problems with on older monitors.

Here's a definition of it:

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/P/pincushion_distortion.html

and here's a picture or two (down at the bottom of this page):

Let me know if that helps!

Since the set seems to "correct" itself, it suggests that there may be some poor solder connections that are causing the initial problem. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins of the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, let me know and we'll start looking at other component failures.

LG Studioworks 700E

It sounds like one of the capacitators inside the monitor is malfunctioning, these little things store a certain amount of necessary power and then discharge it when it is needed.  If it is malfunctioning, it could explain why it takes so long to charge, and why when you hit it, it suddenly comes on.

Screen

first of all , it could be a solder problem try resoldering taking care do not leave any shorts circuits por ahi,may be a shorted coil, you have to test them all, look for a shorted diode esp. in de horizontal area. if any of this things sounds rare, leave it to the repairman!
