Everytime I turn on my laptop it freezes on please wait. I was advised to go to the recovery option but the dates were a while ago so I couldn't do anything. The laptop works in safe mode as well as safe mode with networking. I am stuck for ideas on what to do and I hope someone can help me :)

Possible corrupt operating system. The cause of corrupt operating system is Windows file corrupted or virus infected Windows.

Solution corrupt Windows files:
1. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Restore (restore to the date when the OS is still normal)
2. START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Recovery Options - System Image Recovery (restore using a backup system that you created)

Solution files corrupted due to virus infected windows
Update anti-virus and virus scan (if the virus is detected, the primary action = repair, secondary action = quarantine). Then repair the operating system with System Restore or System Recovery Options.
If the operating system infected with virus (virus infected not long ago), the best solution is to use System Restore. Restore to a date when the windows are still normal.

Hi. Try this steps . 1. Shutdown your computer . 2. Turn it back on then immediately TAP on the F8 button for Couple of times until there would be an option that will come up like SAFE MODE /SAFE MODE with Networking etc... 3. Now if that option is available on your screen select > SAFE MODE highlight it using up and down arrow key on your keyboard once highlighted Hit ENTER then it will show you bunch of words like drivers etc.. Wait for that until it will show you your log in if you have username and password put that in. 4. If it successfully boot up in that option you can now perform System Restore > It is an option where you can revert back the setting of the computer to it's specific date. without a cd the only thing you can do is press the function key F8 while its starting past post(power on self test) and select the option to the last settings that worked. other than that you need to do a os repair which requires a cd.

Windows vista wont load

Hi I believe that wouldn't be a problem. If you want to do a system recovery, the laptop usually comes with a back up partition where all the files to do system recovery is stored. You can use these files to restore the setting back to the point when you first purchased the item.

REMEMBER: All your datas will be erased when you do the System Recovery.
For me guide you on have to access the files, I need the make and model of your laptop.

NOTE: If the RECOVERY or FACTORY_IMAGE partitions on the hard drive have been deleted OR the files in these partitions have been deleted, these steps will not work. You must use recovery discs.

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly , about once every second, until Recovery Manager opens.
  4. Click Next .
A Microsoft System Restore screen opens.
  5. Select No, I would like to see other options , and then click Next .
    A System recovery screen opens.
  6. Click Yes , and Next to continue the recovery process.
The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files. To do so, read Backing up your files .
  7. To continue recovery, select No , and then click Next .
A recovery progress screen opens. Wait while files are restored.
  8. When System Recovery is complete, click Finish
  9. The computer restarts and continues into Windows setup.
  10. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
  11. Turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on the computer.
  12. Before using the computer, update and protect it by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the System Recovery.
  13. Reinstall any software applications that were added after purchasing the computer, and replace any files that were backed up.
Please rate this solution.

Toshiba laptop

1.One thing you can do is press and hold on F8 after power on then select Safe Mode. This way, you would be able to go the desktop. You can do a system restore instead of system recovery (like reformat and reload OS and original programs). To do system restore, you can go to start-all programs-accessories-system tools-system tools-system restore. Select a date when your laptop was working properly. This will restore the software changes beyond that date but will not affect your personal data like your pictures. Be sure not to interrupt the process so please plug in the ac adapter and wait for laptop to restart itself and give the message that the system restore was completed successfully.

2.If the system restore did not work, you can save your files to a disk when using Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking then you can do the system recovery using the recovery disk that came with your laptop or that you made (if you have the hidden partition which is present if you have the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program, note that this is different from Toshiba Disk Creator.)
Hope this helps. Thank you.
