Please try to RESTORE the laptop to an earlier date when the drivers were installed. This might help to reset the errors on the audio link.
Open backup/restore on your control panel and restore to the date available.

try installing proper drivers for the AUDIO CARD! the orange led only indicates the HTK HOTKEYdrivers are working properly, it does NOT says a thing about audio card drivers! so i suggest you to install proper drivers for audio playback!

The orange volume mute button won't go off when i touch it on my hp pavillion dv7 1245dx

I have had similar problems with a hp notebook in the past, although it was the wireless button, not the mute button.

I think you need to remove and then install the sound card driver.
You can download the sound card from here:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41001-41500/sp41479.exe

download it, save it to the desktop.
open control panel, then device manager, then expand sound, video and game controllers. right click on the IDT device and select uninstall, and tick remove driver when prompted. Once the uninstall is complete, restart the computer and then run the above file you have downloaded by right clicking on it and selecting "Run as Administrator".
When finished, reboot, and hopefully your problem is solved.

Hope this info helps.

The phone won't ring. How do I make it ring? I have gone to settings, sounds, ringer and alerts. When I click on that, the phone makes a ringing sound, but when calls come in, it is silent. Please...

Have you checked the switch on the top left of the phone?
That's the mute switch. Flip it in the Up position and that should fix your problem
If the phones ringing when you test the ringer in the settings, the ringer works. It's probably just muted..
I hope that helps...
Thank you

My laptop has just stopped playing any sound whatsoever although being turned up to the highest sound possible on the control panel

You might want to make sure your volume is not muted. If its not you might want to reinstall the driver for your particular soundcard.

Usually Laptop comes with sound mute button on the first row of your laptop or by the side.check out for that button.

If you can'r find them then

For Windows Vista & 7

Click windows button (Lower left),select "Control Panel ", Select "sound" Click "Comunication" tab>Make sure you select "Reduce the volume of other sound by 80%"

For windows XP & 2000 & 2003

Mute Button (touchpad)

This could be a simple driver glitch. Try uninstalling the audio drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find he sound card and reinstall the drivers automatically. Then go to HP's support site and check for any updated sound drivers or patches. If it's a glitch this will fix it. Keep in mind that it could also be a hardware problem with the mute switch, so if the driver procedure doesn't work, you might consider having it serviced.
