Question about Heating & Cooling

I purchased a new portable air conditioner a mac 161 cooling only during hot days the unit is collecting water into the emergency reserve tank and is full with in 2 hrs. the unit is suppose to recycle the majority of the water for its own cooling use and only use the tank on over evapouration of water in which you are meant to release the drain plug and empty reserve tank well my unit is filling to quick in my opinon and is coming up with water full notification in the display screen in which the unit is reduced to fan only until emptied . my delema is that when i fist got this unit it did not do any of the above mentioned things and i would hardly have to emty the unit i was satisfied after about 2 months it has gone to this on its own accord i have tried all different settings to no avail i am very happy with the performace but would love to know if there is some small thing i am overlooking to get this unit to back to recycling most of its water out through the exaust

the exhaust fan must be ok as the hot air is being blown out with force. I don't think that it's very humid at all and this unit would have been designed with a hose if it was an aircon that needed one for a day like today which did not seem like that at all and the full light came on once again in about two hours. I have the machine raised so I can lower a hose and let the water out from some tubing I managed to clamp on.

Hello, I have been looking into you r situation and find that there has been some other folks with the same issue, they have found 2 things. The first was most common and that was the exhaust fan had failed to run causing bucket to over fill. second problem was simply more humidity then the unit can handle. make sure you are keeping the coils clean and that there are no obstructions to the fans. Hope this is helpful. Also I have seen that hot point is very good about unit replacement when unhappy customers are found.

I guess the only other thing I can come up with is to be sure you don't have the unit tucked under a table where the air from the unit can be recycled. I'm sure that's not the case but worth the mention. I will continue the search for answers and get back to you if I find something. sorry I can,t be more helpful with this issue.

I have spoken to several people now and read several reviews on your unit and have found most people are having the same issue as you are. they have tried everything possible and some still have to empty the unit every 1-2 hours even on low fan speed. some have had the unit replaced and are happy and some still have the same issue. try getting hotpoint to replace the unit and see if that does the trick. sounds like a typical problem with this unit.

Why after using my ac for 2 hours the bottom white tank gets full of water? Is this normal?

This is in the coffee maker section, but I think you are asking about a portable air conditioner.
The unit pictured shows the tank which is there to collect water.
- OK you say, why is that happening?
The air "conditioner" is actually an air cooler and when air is cooled, its ability to hold water vapour is reduced. If the humidity is high in the air that is being cooled, as it is being cooled it will condenseand fill up the white tank.
Hope this helps.

Just bought used portable ac. it blows great cold air then blows warm air for a while then back to cool andcold... is this normal? if not hwo to fix?

Yes it's normal in most cases. There should be a knob to turn so it cycles on more often. If it's not a window unit, & is a free-standing unit, you might have to empty a water pan or tank on it. As condensation collects on the cooling coils, it collects in a container near the bottom. If it's full of water, it will cycle the cooling off until you empty the water container or some of the water in it evaporates.

Water leaks under portable air con unit

Look for a crack on the water tank or a dried up gasket on the tank. Loose hose clamps can allow a leak as well.

Haier portable AC water collection tank full in one hour.

My unit was working fine for a couple years but now it won't evaporate. It still cools fine but it also collects about 16 ounces of water every hour and then shuts itself off until I drain it. I'm wondering it the evaporative mechanism it broken some how.

I am empting the tank of water every two days, need help. Thanks

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers are closely related. Any air conditioner operating in a humid environment will extract moisture from the air and with an outside or window unit, this collected condensation has an escape path and these are not equipped with a container to hold the collected water .
A stand-alone portable unit does not have any other way to dispose of the condensate other than the internal container . . .and you.
Your unit is not defective, you just have it operating in a high-humidity area.

My danby portable air conditioner was giving to me.without the manual,i just plug it ini have this extra piece thats looks like a little tankl.what is it for?

The tank is for the water it collects form the humidity in the air. It fits in the humidifier , in a holder. It's commonly referred to as a "bucket". You should not operate the unit without the tank in place. The water collected helps to cool the refrigerant coils.

If you can provide me with the model number of your unit, I may be able to send you an Owner's Manual.

Hope this helped and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Hi, I just purchased this used. It was working fine for one day, but now it won't turn on. Can u help? Haier CPN12XH9 12000 BTU Portable Air

If the water collection tank is full, it will not turn ON. Since you said the unit worked fine for one day and now it won't turn ON, more than likely, that's the problem. After draining the tank, the unit should reset itself and turn ON like it should.

The drain plug is on the rear of the unit, just above floor level. You can either drain it into a low sided pan or bowl that's capable of holding up yo a quart of water. O r roll the unit to a floor drain or outside to drain it. If you choose to drain it into a pan, turn the unit OFF & unplug it, before draining it.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa

There is no drain pipe for the unit I have. It has a cap on the back but no hold, how does the condensation.

Self Evaporating Technology - During the cooling process, water is extracted from the air into the unit. Most of this water is then recycled and used to cool the unit and make it run more efficiently. Approximately 65 to 70% of water condensed is evaporated out with the exhaust air, reducing the hassle of emptying the water tank constantly. This unit has a built-in water tank (not removable) with a drain outlet, and a water tube. When the tank fills, the compressor stops operating and the power light will flash. This indicates that the tank should be emptied.

Water leaking from portable air conditioner

Sounds like the drain line is blocked you would have to take this unit apart in order to check this. I would use a can of air to blow out the leakage. Also make sure the unit is level
