My Hoover 5020d dryer will not operate unless there are very few items in the machine at one time.

Hi Gary

The first thing that came to mind was some kind of weight sensor informing smart electronics that something is in the dryer.

Does it sense a heave weight of some kind?
Metal weight have any affect?

How to troubleshoot noise coming from dryer

A whining noise could be either a worn drive belt on it's way out or a piece of clothing trapped at the back of the drum. To check this, you can unplug the machine, unscrew the lint trap on top of the dryer and using a flathead screwdriver, pop the top off the dryer. Once the top is up, you should be able to inspect the drive belt and be able to feel around the back of the drum for any debris or clothing. If the belt requires replacement, you will need to unscrew the front of the dryer to get the front panel off.

How do I change the belts on a Hoover "Apollo Deluxe" clothes dryer approximately 1995 vintage

Remove the top cover by removing the screws at the back of the machine and sliding the cover off forwards. Now you need to obtain access to the complete circumference of the drum to fit the belt. Depending on your machine you can either remove the front of the dryer, or release the rear bearing support so that you can slide the new belt over the drum and under the bearing retainer, which may entail removing the back cover as well. The belt then just slips over the motor pulley and you need to check on the belt tension, usually done by adjusting the motor or the tensioner.

Hoover 5020D Dryer door won't open... button is

You probably have a coin or other metal object stuck at the bottom of your dryer door preveinting it from opening. Take a table knife and see if you can push the object upward to allow the door to open..

My hoover tumble dryer hnv 380 is making grinding noise when in turns. Seems the drum bearing needs replacing. I am looking for instructions on how to fix this problem.

I've had exactly the same problem with this model and nearly traded it in as it was getting so noisy. However - it can be fixed! You need some general purpose grease from Halfors etc and some WD-40 and a philps screwdriver. Just follow these steps to get the front panel off the dryer: Instructions to lubricate the pulley wheels on the Hoover HNV380 dryer 1. Disconnect from the mains 2. Unscrew screws at the top of the rear of the dryer which allows the top panel of the dryer to slide backwards out. 3. To take off the front of the dryer, unscrew the screws at the top of the inside front panel, next lay the dryer onto it?s back and open the dryer?s door? there are 4 screws on one side and two on the other ? leave the outer 2 screws on the side that has 4 screws which keep the door on and unscrew 2 inner screws and the two screws on the other side. Then finally there are 3 more screws on the under panel to unscrew. This allows the front panel to be moved enough to see inside the dryer. 4. Check the belt that wraps around the drum is ok and centrally in position. 5. Under the drum the belt wraps around the spindle of the motor and is guided by the 2 pulley wheels. These wheels are probably the main culprit of the noise and can sometimes be reproduced by pulling at the belt through the wheels. Put plenty of grease around the pulleys and keep turning the belt to ensure that the grease gets into every bit of the wheels. 6. Then spray WD-40 around the pulleys for good measure and also into the motor and spindle. Make sure there are no more squeaks when you turn the drum by pulling at the belt trough the pulley wheels. 7. Re-assemble the dryer by going back trough the steps in reverse. 8. Just to be certain once the dryer is re-assembled undo the silver cover on the back of the dryer and spay more WD-40 around the plastic fan and into the motor through the fan. I reckon that this should last for a good 12 months or more before starting to squeek again - so far it's been 2 months and sounds as good as new Good Luck

Just discovered this same problem and the belt was a mess when we pulled it out. Now have to try to find a replacement and see if we can get it back on. To find it though just remove the 4 screws that hold the red cover on 2 on the bottom and then two on the top. You will then see two screws near the front holding the black casing for the roller. Just unscrew those and the belt will be hiding under there. Good luck.

It uses a cogged belt, turn it over, remove the bottom plate, remove the other screws from the bottom, turn vac back over and remove the Hoover emblem, there is a screw there to remove and the top comes off, then you can get to and replace the belt.

The most likely cause is a faulty start capacitor. I obtained a new one for $22.00AUD from a local spares shop. You have to remove the back and then the motor mounting plate to get access to it as it is behind the mtr when viewded from the rear I had to remove the long wires from the connector block to attach the replacement directly. You will also need a cable tie to attach it.
Be carefull and make sure the dyer is unplugged as lethal voltages are present.
Good luck
