Question about Sony Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi, our new lap top will not connect to the wireless network at home. Other laptops here have no problem. The PC identifies the network and asks for the security key, which we then type in. Frequentlt the PC will say, "Possible security key mismatch" or "connected but no internet access" or " Public network should be changed to home or work network in network and sharing centre" but will not let me type another network name in this field. Have done everything in trouble shooting, turned router on and off etc. but still wont work. PC does work with LAN cable connected. Could it be anything to do with Windows 7 that the Net gear router does not work with this new system? Kind regards, Russell Jordan

More than likely if you haven't downloaded the correct drivers, maybe?
As it works with the LAN cable, I would think the pc must be OK, I would check the settings for the router and re boot the laptop.
Hope that helps.

1.
Open Network Connections
2.
Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
3.
On the Wireless Networks tab, do one of the following:
• To enable automatic wireless network configuration, select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box. This check box is selected by default. For information about what happens when you enable automatic wireless network configuration, see Notes.
• To disable automatic wireless network configuration, clear the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box.
4.
To connect to an existing wireless network, do one of the following:
Access point (infrastructure)
• To connect to an existing access point (infrastructure) network, under Available networks, click the network name, and then click Configure.
In Wireless Network Properties, specify the wireless network key (Wired Equivalent Privacy) settings, or, if the network key is automatically provided for you (for example, the key is stored on the wireless network adapter given to you by your administrator), select the The key is provided for me automatically check box. If you are unsure about whether a network key is needed or which settings you need to enter, contact your network administrator or the wireless network adapter manufacturer.
Important
• If a network does not broadcast its network name, it will not appear under Available networks. To connect to an access point (infrastructure) network that you know is available but that does not appear under Available networks, under Preferred networks, click Add. In Wireless Network Properties, specify the network name (Service Set Identifier) and, if needed, the wireless network key settings.

Can't get wireless internet to work on dell laptop

May I suggest you give Network Magic a try at solving your connectivity problems. Free to download and evaluate, you may well find it is well worth the couple $ for the 5 full licenses. Get it here: http://www.purenetworks.com/nmlp/home-networking.php?gclid=CPua-J-J1J4CFVw55QodUi_Nrw&src=google&kw=network+magic+download

In addition to connectivity, NM will aid you with security and sharing as well as other fine features.

Cant connect to the internet on my lap top

first thing is to identify the wireless settings of the router, you need to identify the wireless name (SSID), channel and the encryption you are getting from the airlink router. Next is to make sure that the wireless computer has enabled wireless signal/ or the wireless is on.

after that, you may connecting wirelessly to the computer, right click wireless connection and go to view available wireless networks, try to connect -input the encryption key from you wireless router or password and hit connect.

Trying to connect desk top computer and lap top computer

There is only two ways to possibly connect both the desktop and the laptop in the network. That is to purchase a router so you can connect them both or a route with a wireless and then the laptop (Which most new ones have a wireless capability installed) can connect wireless from anywhere in the home. If you already have a Cable or DSL Modem it may have a wireless capability. Otherwise you would have to get a wireless modem. Hope this helps. Bud

How do i use my built in wireless connection to connect to the internet, please.

make sure that your wireless or wifi light is on,you may try to press Fn and F2 at the same time to enable or swith on wireless..if wifi is already on,try going to start >> control panel >> network connections,go to wireless network connection and double click it, it will give you a list of wireless network,or right click and then "view available wireless network", if you get an error that windows cannot configure wireless connection,go to start >> all programs >> loo for either dell wlan utility or intel pro wireless, by opening that app,it will also search for wireless network in range, just double click on the network name where you want to connect and you sould be connected provided that "wireless network" doesnt have encryption like wpa or wep key..if your connecting to your home network, you should have wireless router at home and wireless is enabled on the router.
