Question about Hitachi Televison & Video

Open Question

Got a free Hitachi 50v500A from a friends grandparents tonight and am looking for a video on "light engine repair". I know the bulb melted the plastic reflectors and I'm about to look for repair videos. (Where is a good place to find a guide on how to repair the light engine?) Hitachi may have an easy fix which to replace the melted plastic with real mirrors. The different models will turn blue on top or red on top of the reflectors I think right now I have red and yellow blue around the edges that must mean my blue reflector is deformed from the heat of the lamp, I just need to find a best fix besides buying a new one! (Any where I could find detailed pictures of the light engine for the 50v500A?)

SOURCE: need help repairing Mitsubishi VS 4541 rear projection TV

I have the same type of TV, and I think it has a filed "power rail", as the LED does not burn at all, nor do the heaters of any of the CRT's. When I plug it in, I can hear the relays click in, and hitting the power button will cause the relays to click. Other than this, there is no sign of life from this TV. I really would like to find a repair manual or a schematic to aid in troubleshooting. The self-diag trick may be handy if the LED would come on. I'll try it and see what it does.

SOURCE: Lamp Replacement Problems for Hitachi 50V500A

I'll tell you what I tran into and how it got resolved...
I experienced the same problem , with the blinking light...
Purchased a replacement lamp..
It didn't work(After market Universal supposably)..
Well..Come to find out.The Replacement lamp's housing looks similar, but the connecters that come out the back of the housing weren't quite long enough to trigger the microbe that activates the lamp in the Television.
Luckily I had the original lamp and it's housing that came with the television..
Took the bulb out of the new replacement lamp
Placed it in the original housing , and BINGO..It worked and is still working...

No I do not. There is no lower cost, I wish there was. I repair DLP sets and have yet to have a customer replace the Light Engine due to the cost. That is why mfg stopped making them and also due to better technology. LED set is the way to go with 240hz.

Hitachi ultravision 50V500A screen dim

The model indicated is a DLP rear projection and uses a "lamp" for brightness.

If it has not been changed for a while it should be on the right side of the set behind a removable plate. Check your owners manual if you have it.

Life span varies but 2,000 hours is normal.

Let me know if you need any further assistance as I am here to help.

Red circle in middle of screen color is way off

You have a problem with the light engine. Hitachi has extended the warranty on some of these. This is a major expense with major labor charges. Better get in contact with a local Hitachi authorized repair facility.

Blue ghost image on the top left hand corner of my Hitachi 50V500A.

You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck!
