The red LED is probably just to show it has power... did it come with a driver disk or have you installed a driver for it?

check settings in the program you are using, as it might not show up as a mic in the OS because it is USB. What program(s) are you using the mic in? Have you tried any other programs?

Open Apple menu -> SYSTEM PREFERENCES.
    Double-click SOUND preference file.
    Click INPUT tab.
Double-click BLUE USB BALL MIC under CHOOSE A DEVICE FOR SOUND INPUT dialog box.

Manufacturer says no driver is needed... have you tried using it in any other programs? Other USB ports? If so, it may just be defective. It shouldn't need any setting up...

I want to use more than one microphone for a teleconference

Buy a USB mixer that would plug into the Mac, then plug the Snowball into the mixer. Make sure before you buy the mixer that it will have USB inputs for the Snowball, as most use professional XLR's. The output of a USB based mic like a Snowball is very minute to start with, as USB just does not put out the voltage.

I've got a new Blue Snowball mike that worked great out of the box, but now, a week later, it just gets a "device not recognized" message when I plug it in. I've tried rebooting, and...

I had the same problem with my PC and went to where I downloaded and installed the driver and it worked!! I found the site by reading this FAQ (see below) at Blue under Snowball.
(But I still have the same problem with my MAC).

"If you should experience any problems getting the program to recognize the mic, Adobe recommends the following: If the device does not allow you to record, then your microphone is not being detected as a valid input device in Premiere Elements. You can use an open source program called ASIO4ALL, which is a device driver that essentially wraps existing WDM devices, like USB microphones, as ASIO-compatible sound devices. Use the following steps to utilize this tool:
  1. Quit Premiere Elements.
  2. Visit the following web page and download the latest available version of ASIO4ALL:
  3. Install the software, and restart the system if asked to do so by the installer.
  4. Make certain that your microphone is plugged in.
  5. Launch Premiere Elements. Go to the 'Edit->Preferences..>Audio Hardware' menu option. For the Default Device, choose the ASIO4ALL option. Click the ASIO Settings button, then select your microphone from the list of devices, click Exit, and then click OK on the Preferences dialog. Close and then restart Premiere Elements."

I got a blue snowball microphone and had 2 problems. On XP, I can get it recognized and record stuff (I use Acid Pro) but while I am recording (with headphones) I dont hear anything in the head phones....

Thanks for purchasing the Snowball! The problem doesn't look directly related to the mic (as it's purely USB) and monitoring is dependent on the capabilities of the recording software being used. For direct monitoring, we recommend GarageBand and Audacity.

Cant install microphone

First of all check whether when you plug in the microphone to USB port the hardware is detected.
If so then see whether you have unmuted the microphone in your sound setting.
Also run voice setup in your IM's.
