Question about Samsung HLP6163W 61" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I'm having trouble getting the lamp to fire up. We've been through a few lamps already and all of the symptoms were the same, however when replacing with the new lamp, audio comes on but no image. There are no additional sounds, you hear the ballast fire up the bulb - one, maybe two clicks initially then just audio for about 30 seconds before it re-cycles. The set re-cycles 3 times and then shuts down with all three (timer/standby/lamp). I think I received a faulty lamp from my distributor. Any other ideas?

Out of spec.Ballast unit will do that as well as a faulty lamp.

Hi,

The symptoms you've mentioned is an indication that the lamp needs to replaced because it is already burnt out. You've said that the lamp was replaced 3+ years ago, then you have to replaced it with new one to resolve the issue.

Problem concerns Samsung HL-S5087W. All of a sudden, TV goes through 3 startup cycles and shuts down resulting in 3 blinking lights on front panel. What I've done: Completely cleaned inside of...

Hi,

3 blinking led light at the front panel is an error code for lamp malfunction. If you've already replaced the bulb and yet the symptoms remain the same, then high chance that the fault came from the ballast board because the supply voltage is present.

Confirm if the bulb will lit upon powering on the unit. Open the lamp cover, bypass the lamp cover switch by putting tape to make it in closed position (making it still the lamp cover is attached to the housing) and then power on the unit. Check if the bulb will ignite or will light up, if not, you have to replaced the ballast board.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

This is a scanning lamp error. Try replacing the lamp but you may need the lamp inverter circuit board the lamp plugs into. I've had trouble matching the connector of the lamp with the circuit board. Canon decided to change the connector on the newer lamps and they don't match the older circuit boards.

Lamps keep going out. 4 since 2006

This is happening because the "Root Cause" is NOT being fixed, the "Lamp: is a SYMPTOM, NOT the "Cause". Replacing the Lamp is just spending good money after bad....Unfortunately there are quite a "Few" causes for it. If it has been done "Professionally" then they HAVEN''T done their job properly.

Sony wega won't turn on

It sounds like it is the ballast. The ballast is what fires the lamp, if it is faulty, it will continue to blow out the lamp. The fan cooling could also be the issue but the TV will usually turn itself off if the fans are not spinning at the right speed.

It sounds like you need to replace the lamp. Take the lamp assembly out and inspect it. It will have a white smokey look or may be cracked if it is bad.

Replace lamp and lamp light continues to blink and will not come on. lamp is good but will not power up. fan is on so there is power. any suggestions?

Usually if the lamp light starts blinking and it will not fire up after the lamp is installed then that means that you still have the lamp door of and the toggle switch that detects the lamp door being off is activated and so the tv is in failsafe mode and is not turning on to protect you. If you know that you have the lamp door back on and the switch is pushed back into place as it is supposed to be then the issue is most likely your ballast. The ballast can appear to be the same symptoms as the lamp. If the lamp itself was not damaged or broken then its possible the lamp was fine all along and the ballast is bad. The ballast is the board the connects to the lamp and charges up the high voltage to fire up the lamp. If it is damaged in some way then the lamp will not fire. Just as a precaution you can test the wire connected into the ballast from the power supply board and make sure you are getting voltage. If you are getting voltage and the lamp is good and the lamp door toggle switch is not activated or the lamp temp board wire is not unplugged then you definitely have a ballast problem. Those are the only components that can cause the lamp to fire. The lamp temp board is a little board on top of the lamp housing that just has 1 small wire connected to it that is a thermometer. If that is unplugged the lamp will also not fire. So, requirements for fire lamp:
1. Power from power supply board to ballast
2. Ballast converting power out to lamp
3. Lamp door switch must be suppressed
4. Lamp temp board must be plugged in and functioning.

Mitsubishi lamp

Sometimes the same symptom can be caused by the lamp driver (ballast) failing. Also make sure the lamp door and filter door are fully closed. Unplug for 1 min to reboot. When it turns on, you will hear the fans (airflow sound) and then colorwheel spin up (high pitched) and finally the lamp will fire. If the lamp is bad, you will hear the spark gap make a buzz sound for 1 second.. it will retry a few times before shutting down
