Question about Nikon Coolpix S4000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I bought my camera Christmas Eve, and a new memory card Christmas Day. Yesterday, I tried turning the camera on and the lens opened and shut automatically and said Lens Error with a Large Red Exclamation point. I've come to the conclusion that it was because I hadn't formatted the new memory card with the camera and I'd already taken a few pictures with it. But now, when I turn the camera on, it no longer says that and only has a blurry image and does not take photos. I do not know how to fix this and do not want to have to buy a new camera. Can you please tell me what the problem is and how I need to fix it?

SOURCE: Lens Error!

I know this is really late, but I've been having the same problem with the S6 on and off for the whole year, and I suspected a loose part. For a whole week, I couldn't turn on my camera, and the lens cap doesn't close until five minutes later. So I did what someone should really not do to a camera- I got my lens cloth and pushed on the lens directly as the stuttering noise occured. It works! The camera now turns on and off! Right now, it works okay for a while, but I suspect it might getting weird again, so I will try pushing it in harder next time and see if that will fix it for longer. other than than, make a better choice the next time you buy a camera! =\ I hope this will help others who have the same problem. Please email me at samuelkyl@gmail.com for any other solutions and/or comments.

Lens error, restart camera camera shuts off

Try one of these two fixes, if they dont work for you follow the link below for further troubleshooting.

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Fix #1: Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. If that didn't work, try pressing and holding the Function or OK button while turning the camera on.
Fix #2: If the camera's batteries ran down completely while the its lens was still open, the camera may show a lens error or not start properly when new batteries are installed. Remove the memory card and keep it removed, then install the new batteries. When you turn the camera on with the card removed it may come back to life, as this triggers a reset in some cameras. Error E30 (for older Canon's) means that you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in the SD card and turn it on one last time

Not turning on and has strange smell

Powershot A640 Could Not Be Powered On, Burnt Smell

My Powershot A640 died during a picture shot, lens remaining open. I thought it may be due to the dead batteries. But after putting new batteries and pushing the on/off button, the on/off indicator blinked once then shut off by itself. After a while, a strange smell came from camera batteries area, and I could feel warm there too. Immediately I took out all the batteries from camera.

When checking the posts here the other day, I tried one solution and got the lens back to close: first took out the memory card from camera, then put the new batteries in; push the on/off button with no memory card. I found the lens retracted a little before camera shut off by itself. I pushed on/off button three times to get the lens fully close. However, the burnt smell came out again. I immediately took out the batteries.
Did I get a short circuit inside? Is there any ways to fix it?

Lens only open partially

Lens mechanism isn't good to work properly so camera shut down the power. Try to tap the lens/ camera while power up.
If you have a memory card in the camera, take it out before turning the camera on

Power On problem

Try the simple stuff first. Install fresh batteries. Remove the memory card. If that doesn't fix the problem, it is time for warranty.
