Removing the clutch assembly

Is there a trick to getting the clutch shaft off? I have used a T 25 torx driver, but I cannot get the screw to budge. I don't want to strip out the head as that will cause even more trouble.

SOURCE: how do I remove the clutch rotor assembly on a ryobi 720r?

I have the same model, I inserted a large screwdriver on the inside to stop the rotor assembly from spinning, then I used a pipe wrench (but channel lock pliers would probably work better) and then w/o much effort, I easily turned the wrench counter clockwise to loosen.

I have a 29 cc craftsman line trimmer. I need to replace all the plastic housings, but to do that the centrifugal clutch needs to be removed from the output shaft of the motor. It looks like a press fit,...


It is not pressed. It is threaded (right hand threads). Here is an easy way to do it.
Remove the tube that holds the flex-drive shaft from the front of the motor cover.Remove the rear engine cover. Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark and unplug any wires for the on/off switch that go to the ignition coil (underneath front cover) if possible. Now if you have pulled the driveshaft tube out of the way, the clutch drum is up next. Inside it, screwed into the very end of the engine's crankshaft is a Torx #25 screw. Before you loosen it, you will have to lock up the engine. To do so, remove the spark plug. Pull on the starter until the piston is down, then insert a length of clean, soft rope into the engine. The engine will come up and compress the rope, thus locking it in place to allow clutch drum and clutch removal. Loosen the T-25 (Star bit or Torx head) screw inside the drum.. You may be able to remove it with a long thin-blade screwdriver also.It probably won't come completely out...it is made this way. Next, remove the clutch. It is screwed onto a small threaded section of the crankshaft Removal is counterclockwise.. It will be pretty tight. To help, apply peneterating oil. Whack the ears of the clutch near the center with a hammer and a dull flat-blade chisel or a small piece of wood unless there are bolts. then use a wrench. It will turn counterclockwise for removal and there will probably be a removal direction arrow on it's face. After getting that off, remove the Torx screws holding the cover to the engine

How do I rmove the clutch rotor from the shaft so I can access the pulley rotor assembly -does it screw of and if so is it a RH threaad? It is a Ryobi Weed Hornet 77 31cc


I always describe this solution in detail, and am going to include pictures this time. Here are online instructions with pictures, followed by my directions.

Here are my instructions to aid you.
(Yes, the Torx screw inside the clutch drum is a right-handed thread)

You can't remove the motor shaft from the front. That is NOT what you are trying to do anyway. Here are all the steps you need to take to get to the pull start assembly which is located inside the front cover. Torx head screws are used exclusively on these but you may be able to grab some of the fasteners with a flat-blade screwdriver. I'm not sure if you have removed the clutch drum (has the screw that backs out but doesn't come out) so here you go.

Recoil pulley is jamed...ratiling sound in motor...

How do i remove the outer assembly spool on a troy built gas trimmer tb575ss


If you are talking about the side where the clutch is, there is a Torx screw inside the hollow part of the clutch housing. Using a #20 Torx bit, loosen screw. If this is the first time on this screw it will be tight and the drive shaft will turn with it. You will have to remove top of cylinder head and put something soft inside the cylinder to stop piston from moving up and down; usually a towel and something stiff like a screwdriver to hold it from moving.
After clutch housing is removed, the clutch itself is threaded and by holding the shaft with pliers you can unscrew the clutch.
Past this, just screws holding the plastic housing.

How do I replace the starter pull rope on TB70SS?


You must first remove the shaft assembly by removing the Torx/Flathead screws that hold on the trigger. Then you remove 3 screws that hold the engine to the shaft. Next you can remove the shaft assembly and you will see 4 or so screws holding the black surround around the clutch. You need to remove this to get to the pullstarter. Once you get to the pullstarter make sure not to release the coiled spring or you'll have a hell of a time putting it back in. Typically that are behind the pullstarter assembly.

Trying to remove a clutch rotor assembly on a craftsman trimmer and not sure how to remove it. looks like it unscrews from the shaft


It does unscrew from the shaft. The Torx screw holding it is hidden and doesn't come out of the housing once it is loosened. It is screwed into the end of the shaft. You will have to keep the engine from turning to loosen it. Pull spark plug out and move piston to bottom of stroke. Put some nice, soft, clean rope in the cylinder and let the piston compress it when you turn the Torx screw in the clutch rotor housing.
