I think I only have a suggestion that may solve the issue. Try assigning Static IP to the Printer. Also, updating the drivers may help.

Error 49.38.07 printer unable to initialize

49.XXXXX ERROR To continue turn off
then on
A critical firmware error has occurred.

Generally this fault occurs when a corrupt file is in the print queue
to clear fault follow these steps precisley
1. disconnect the net cable / usb cable or any other data cable that the machine is connected to
2. cycle the power with no data connections.
3. your machine should now come to ready.
4. take a copy from the platen glass ( straight forward photocopy)
if this prints out then the fault is down to corrupt data.
if at this point the error 49.xx.xx is still present then order a new formatter.
5. before reconnecting the networks -make sure ALL PRINT QUEUEs are cleared before connection otherwise you'll be back at square one
( print queues are on the computers sending print jobs)
before printing your documents its wise to send a test page through to make sure the printer is still able to understand print commands.
hope this helps...if you still need assistance please call Belmonte office equipment on 01614805556

Hp 4700 49.3066 service error

49.xx errors are mostly caused by invalid print commands, corrupt
data, or invalid operations. Basically the printer "does not understand" the print job.

- restart the printer to clear the print job from the printer's memory.

-if the error returns disconnect the network/USB cables from the unit and cycle power again.
If the error comes back without the network/USB connected perform a cold reset on the device and go the next step.
- Once the unit is at Ready reconnect the network/USB cable.

If the unit gets the 49.xx error or begins to print a job then gets the error disconnect the cables again and power cycle the printer. This time when you plug the network/USB cable in watch the control panel for any signs of the unit receiving a print job. When the printer says "Processing" press the cancel button on the printer. This should clear the "bad" print job.

I strongly recommend updating to the latest driver for the device Drivers Software . If you had an issue with a PDF file use the Post Script (PS) driver.

Good Luck

Prior to past few days printer worked fine. Now it prints a few postcards then gives a print buffer message on printer screen and from there on it prints gobbledy gook. Now it won't even print a test...

Sounds like you cover all the bases. I just wonder if you reset the unit via the service mode?
resetting the printer should have cleared the memory.

Hold down select and return while powering on machine, hold until self test comes up on display then press go, this will get you into service mode.

Run the memory diagnostics.

The tipe of print head is incorrect Install the correct print head? Head is in for a long time. What shall I do?

Printer is having a brain fart. Simply disconnect all cables and power cords from equipment. Leave disconnected for 1 minute while you check connections of power cord to wall and print cable to computer. If hey are secure then wait 1 minute and reconnect your print cable to the printer, and reconnect your power cord to the printer. Now turn on printer and message should have cleared
