Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have Dometic Roof Top Heatpump Model B3200 It will not turn on when it is a cold morning. The only way to get it started is to heat up the air in the caravan using a fan heater. This somewhat stupid advise was what I got from my dealer. Is it possible to adjust the thermostat and how is that done, please. Thank you. Netas

To getproper heat, keep your temp setting at 30+ degree and also mode in "heat"position. If still no heat, check your heating sensor for closed circuit by anOHMs metre. It it's with RV, check power to RV

The unit is completely dead, including the fan, until I have heated the air up inside the van with a little electric blow heater. Eventually as air in the van warms up the unit will start. As the unit is an airconditioner-heatpump my guess is that it has something to do with control of lower temperature setting in airconditioner mode.

I have a Dometic B3200 / 3253.332 roof a/c The problem I have is on a very hot day the a/c will run for lhours at a time then the fan will cut out however you can still hear the compressor

it is possible that the condenser is too hot to transfer the heat because the air temp is too hot
test that by spraying water into the fan ( mist) to cool the condenser and see if that stops it
or move the unit to a shady area rather than on the roof top

Follow the steps in suggested answer #3. Make sure the cable connections are good and the wires have continuity. When I've had this code in the past it's usually been the control board in the heat pump, on top. There is a fuse on that control board as well, make sure you check it. If everything else checks out replace the control board.

How difficult / expensive is it to install a heat strip in a Dometic roof top AC? The unit I have has a mark on the knob for heat, but I suspect it was never installed.

Fairly easy. The only thing that you must figure out is how many amps the heat strips will draw. Make sure the fuses and the breaker switch can handle them. And be aware your electric bills will shoot up.

AC/Heatpump units cycle numerous times blowing ambient air.

If the compressor never kicks in, I would check the start capacitor, thermostat and the compressor windings. Most times the start capacitor is defective. Some window air conditioners the fan will run while the compressor stop through the thermostat switch. If the thermostat switch is bad every thing runs except the compressor. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Location of Drain holes on Duo-Therm Model 630035.321

Good place to start is up on the roof. Look way under the unit (hard to see some times) along the bottom, between where the gasket sits on the roof and metal bottom of unit. Should see small round or similar sticking down from unit. There will be a hole in the side of them. Poke around with a wire or something to open them up. If you don't see water/condensation running across your roof from unit when it's operating, (usually in 2 directions, 1 each side of unit) then yup, there plugged.
