Check the port you plugged your monitor into on your desktop, it is possible that you have plugged into a different port from which it came (i.e. the motherboard graphics port rather than a discrete graphics card). If that is not the case, check your BIOS settings... can you see the startup screen when your computer first boots? Check your monitor settings, try reseting them to factory defaults.

If this appears on your computer monitor screen by itself and not as a notification through your desktop. Then you should go to the start menu (if you have windows) and go to the control panel.
from there click on "adjust screen resolution" and set it to 1440 by 900 pixels with the "refresh rate" to 60 hertz if needed too in the advance settings button under the Monitor tab.

Hope this helps : )

Boot into safemode using F8 (on the boot cycle) -> Safe Mode. From there, you can reset your screen resolution to 1440x900.

I want to use a NEC Multisync 1700V monitor as an external display for my Thinkpad T400. However I get no image when I hook up the laptop and change the display scheme to display on my laptop screen +...

The only I can think of is the resolution setting that your T400 is putting out that your NEC does not like andcannot display, look at the T42 resolution when the NEC is hooked up to it and try to set it to be the same in the T400.

My dell inspiron 1300 notebook seems to be working but I cannot see anything on the screen. I was told to hook it up using a VGA cord to a monitor to solve the problem. It doesnt seem to be working and...

after u connect it to VGA u need to change the display signal interface to monitor from lcd, the option is available in display properties in Control panel
under Display prop, go to Settings/Advanced/Monitor or Adaptor depending on the choice.
there u will get LCD or Monitor or TV to chose.
the big ? is if you cant view anything on the LCD laptop how will u do it....?
check if u can view any bit of display in ur laptop like a filim negative....if it's totaly dark then u may visit a tech shop to replace the lcd screen

Hp laptop black screen but running in background

I have to know if you changed the display resolution settings. If so, boot the laptop to safe mode (tap the F8 key after you turn it on). Go to Start > Control Panel > Display and select the settings tab. Try changing the resolution to 1024 x 768 and see if that will bring everything back to good order.

Good luck, and feel free to rate this advice.

How can I make fonts look good in an LCD monitor ?

The VGA connection should be fine; I have DVI and when I switched from analog, the difference was pretty minimal, to my eyes.

Is it just the fonts that are blurry, or everything? If fonts only, then this almost certainly suggests that running the ClearType tuner again would solve the problem. But this applies to all displays, so if one is good and the other is not, then this isn't it.

If everything is a little blurry, then this suggests one of two problems -- the first, you report trying, which is that the display adapter is set to a different resolution than the native resolution of the LCD monitor itself. Your display adapter should probably be able to drive 2 monitors (the built-in laptop monitor and the external monitor) at once. You should be able to set their resolutions separately.

Assuming Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > at which point, you should see two monitors listed in a dropdown. Set them to their native resolutions there (using the slider bar, usually all the way to the right), and save.

If you do have the display resolutions set to their native resolutions for both monitors, then it's possible that your external monitor is messed up. A quick test would be to run the on-screen settings, usually from a button on the monitor itself. If what is displayed there is sharp and what is displayed from Windows is not, then this points to a problem with the display driver. If everything, even the on-screen display is blurry, then perhaps the monitor settings are messed up -- usually there's an option to restore to factory settings -- try that.

If that doesn't work, I'm probably out of ideas, unless you have further information.

Satellite A105 S4054 display problem

Hi, you may need tore-install the video driver. May have been a windows update which messed with the driver.. just a guess. The part of only a portion of the screen being shown indicates that the settings in the bios may have been changed. If that's the case, get back tome. Otherwise, the video card may be crapping out on it. I've had 2 or 3 of these units do that. Good luck Harvester3
