You can start by replacing the capacitor. This should solve the problem, but if it doesn't, you will need to consider having the motor rebuilt or replaced.
Generally a capacitor should run you anywhere from $2 - 30 depending on where you get it from.

In the last 2 weeks I burnt 4 capacitors.(30-40 mf) (1/2 hp 2.1A, 220volts))

It is unusual to need to change a motor start capacitor. Mostly it is age and poor quality that causes them to fail. In a case where the capacitor is a combination start and run capacitor, the run section is rather more highly stressed and low quality, wrong specification or a motor fault is more likely to cause capacitor failure.

If you are certain the correct capacitor has been used as replacements I suggest you suspect a motor fault, perhaps a few shorted turns in the run windings. Checking the current drawn by the motor should give an indication.

My SQ washer won't agitate but it spins. I was told it was a capacitor and replaced it. Still same problem. Motor humms, smells burnt and won't agitate. Spins fine though. Help me please.

a burnt smell from a motor indicates field or armature failure
get an exacting diagnosis of the problem from a service technician as it may be a motor or a program board as either unit is expensive if replaced when not necessary

Motor not working.

You need to find out what is causing the capacitor to short and "blow up or smoke". Then you will have to replace the capacitor again or the motor will never start up. Sounds like you either have a dead short or you bought a faulty Capacitor. Not uncommon for a 220+ volt Capacitor to be bad right from the factory. I replaced two Capacitors before I had a quality one, but after I replaced it twice I have had no more problems. Make sure to grease the motor through the grease fitting on it. The life of your motor depends on it.

Hi my 3/4 hp 230/115 centurian is buzzing and i smell burnt electrics.....what do i need to order to fix?

If the motor can be turned easily by hand then sometimes the starting or run capacitor can be replaced with the same value device and the pump will run. If a new capacitor is installed and it doesn't run then the motor needs to be replaced. If the motor does not turn easily then usually the bearings are bad and the motor needs to be replaced. I hope this helps. The burned smell is either overheated wiring in the motor or a bad capacitor, etc.

Hello, If the motor is getting power and the capacitor is good most likely the motor is shot either due to an open winding or failed bearing

Air conditioner comes on but does not blow air out

if the AC is coming on with no air output the problem is that although the compressor is running - the fan motor is not.

This can be because of a 'switch' malfunction, a wire burnt into, a bad fan capacitor or a bad motor.

Of the four possibilities the easiest two to identify are the 'wire that has burnt into,' and a bad fan capacitor. A wire that is burnt into is obvious and so is (sometimes) a bad fan capacitor. A fan capacitor which btw - is a little module (usually gray or silver in color) with wires attached to it. I would check all my wires to it and to the fan motor and anywhere else I could in the unit. Also examine the fan capacitor itself - looking for burnt damage or a 'bulge' in the module which are direct symptoms of a bad fan capacitor.

If it's the capacitor you can remove it making sure you mark your wires in such a way you can connect them up after acquiring a new capacitor.

You can buy capacitors at any Air Conditining Supply house - and they will run about $15-$25 or less.

A bad motor is usually indicated by the motor 'not starting/running' and/or 'the motor being hot to the touch' - there's not much that can be done these days if the motor is bad but replace it. And unless you're really mechanicaly inclined and have plenty of specility tools I would not attempt it. A Service Tech is the best bet here, and you're looking at a repair bill of around $150-$250.

A 'switch' problem is really not that likely but for a nominal fee (usually around $35-$50 you can buy a switch and change out the old one. Like I said this is not likely the problem and I would probably not do this on a hunch.

good luck!

My goldstar turns on and hums, but no cold air. then it blows a circuit breaker

First you should check the power for short circuit, second you have to check the fan motor if it is burnt or not, third check whether the compressor is burnt or not. These are the three reasons. If the powering is short circuited change the cables from the mccb.If the fan motor is burned out replace the fan motor or rewind the fan motor. If the compressor is burnt out replace the compressor, evacuate the refrigeration system and charge the refrigerant.

Not running at251201-01

Check if the motor winding is still OK. (Not grounded or
burnt windings) If still ok, replace the starting capacitor
and running capacitor of the motor. Start it up, see if
this will run normally. If it doesn't, check the centrifugal
switch. All this tips is for a capacitor start and run motors for pumpmotor service.

Lasko 3723 burnt motor

sorry but you need to purchase a new fan.
some times the motor is not aline correctly and the rotor "part that spins the blade" rubs on the stator "the part with the copper wire:" the motor
over heat with the friction, then smoke followed by the coil burning.
