How do you do a hard reset on a Compaq Presario cq50-130us I've tried the F11 thing and it didn't work

According to the manual, only certain models had a recovery partition. The manual covers F11 recovery partition procedures for Windows VISTA, but not for Windows 7. If the unit has an SSD installed, it probably does not have a recovery partition. In that case you should use your recovery disks. These are the disks you were told to create at the time you purchased your PC. You can only make one set of recovery disks with the software provided, but they are only intended to allow you to restore the factory image should it become necessary. Many people do not read their manuals or the setup tutorials and fail to create these disks. Then, later, when they need them they are not available. If you don't have the recovery partition, and don't have recovery disks, then you have a problem. You will need to reload the OS manually, and then download and install the hardware drivers from the Compaq support site.

I wont to reset my compaq CQ61 computer with windows 7 back to factory settings but my F11 button does not do it

Suggest you use the Restoration Disk instead. When asked perform a Full Installation. (Destructive Installation)

Do not have the Restoration Disk?
Contact HP Support.

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Write down the Serial Number (S/N) in the white Service Tag, on the bottom of your Notebook PC. Have it handy to give to the nice representative.

The toll-free phone number in the US is 1-800-474-6836
7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Outside the US please use HP Worldwide Support,

Hi i am trying to reset a lap top back to factory settings it is a compaq cq61-320sa i have done this once b4 but for the life of me cant remember how f11 on restart or f8 somthing like that but i dont...

Press F10 during the statr of the laptop, it will access the hidden Recovery partition. From there follow the instructions on the screen.
If F10 doesn't work then you will have to order and use recovery disks

How do i restart my computer so its like new?

You mean restoring the Laptop to factory settings?

You can do that by following tow ways. You can use Recovery Partiotion of your Notebook (if available) and you can use the Recovery Disk (if you have created). Providing you the steps for both....

Restoring to factory settings by Partition:
1.Connect PC to the AC power adapter.
2.Restart the notebook and Press F11 when HP logo appears.
3. Tap the F11 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
4. On the PC recovery window Select "Ok".
5. On the next screen read the system recovery information and Select "Advanced".
6. Select Destructive Recovery and follow on screen instructions.
7. Restart the notebook when prompted.
In case if the Recovery partition is not working, use the recovery disk. If you did not create the recovery disk, then order it online from following HP link....

Recovery disk order page for CQ60-220US (P/N: NB048UA#ABA)
https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=515690-002&lang=en&cc=us
If you are not able to open the link....
1. Open an Internet Explorer, type www.hp.com
2. In the search bar, type your Laptop's Product Number (P/N)
3. From the left side, click on 'Software & Driver download'
4. Select Microsoft Windows Vista from drop down
5. Click on + beside Recovery Media then click the link.

Instruction to install from Disk:
1. Insert the disc. Turn off the Notebook. Again turn on the Notebook with Disk inside.
2. Press "ESC" key on keyboard twice.
3. You should find one time boot device option.
4. Select CD/DVD as primary boot device and then hit enter key.
5. Now the installation should start.

Compaq Presario C300 Recoivery Disc 2 corrupt

Hi John.

F11 process is not working and you get a NTLDR missing when you turnon the notebook.

Steps to be performed:
1. Perform hard drive self test from BIOS.
2. If it is passed then use retail version of operating system disk to install XP or try using new recovery disks which nay cost you $15.00.

In your notebook model this issue appears if there is any issue with the hard drive.

Error 0x400 110020000 1005 using recovery disc

use xp os disk and use repair os ...
boot from xp os disk choose install new NOT repair and system will examine and detect that an os already exists and give options continue install new, repair or quit...at this point choose repair..
install new and repair both take around about the same time to complete only repair leaves existing files or downloads previously saved intact and available.also when you install new often you need to find certain software/drivers as windows doesnt install by default (wireless, blutooth, sometimes modem, often vga.) I have my device drivers on a cd for whenever if ever I may need.
once your up and running install a recovery suite that can recover from startup.if you cant find one or dont know of one send ur email and I'll send you the one I use.
then next time you have a software issue you just hit f11 at start and entire hard drive is repaired/recovered in about 5 or 6 min.

Factory.settings

Hi,

According to what you have said, you might have created the Recovery disks after purchasing the notebook. Now you are trying to restore the notebook to factory settings, but they are not working.

Even you have tried to F11 options to restore notebook using the Recovery partition of your notebook.

Let me assist you in this regard.

If the recovery disks are not booting, then we have to check if the issue is with the disks or with the CD/DVD drive itself.

To check that, you need to try to boot with any other OS CD. If the notebook is booting with other OS disks, then the issue is with the Recovery disks itself.

Even F11 option is not working, you have to make sure that D: Recovery is not removed.

For your information, if the issue is with the Recovery disks, then you can purchase the Recovery disks from Hp at very low price.

You can order them from the below link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=500508

Under
CD-ROM order page - Recovery Discs you can order the place order for Recovery disks.
