This may happen due to few reasons.
1. If the laptop is heating up.
2. Virus/Spyware Infections
3. Program conflicts on the computer.

Boot your computer in the safe mode or in BIOS and than let it be on, monitor if it still shuts down after the same time, if it does that it is an heating issue.( Also see if the body heats up abnormally).

If it does not than you should scan your computer for the virus/spyware.

let me know what happens.

Regards
Sammy

Why is it exactly that you wont shut off your lap top...? I've actually hear that leaving you lap top on constantly is ok for the unit. I myself constantly leave my lap top on all the time and have had no issues with it. Hope this helps Shannon

One of the bad things that happen with lap tops I have observed owning them is they do get hotter than usual, they make a lap USB fan for them which since I have recommended to all of my clients there seems to not be as many issues with heating anymore. Lap tops are designed with protective measures in the BIOS when built to shut down then they get to hot.
A good feature so the cooler your lap top runs the less it will shut down. Also go into the power options settings when you reload and set this to the factory settings and only change the power side that is when it is plugged in only leave the battery settings where they are. I hope this assisted you. Fix this before it becomes a serious issue. Thanks for using FixYa for all your questions. John

  1. Hold down the power button until the power completely shuts down
  2. If Step 1 doesn't work, remove the laptop battery and reinsert it
  3. Power on your latop
  4. Choose to 'Start Your Comptuer Normally', during bootup

All my saved pictures have been deleted and the screen continually goes blank

Greetings and thanks for the question, there are various reasons why this happens. Without having your computer here to see what is going on is anybody s guess on how to repair it. If I may offer some suggestions. Since I also do not know what operating system you are using I will assume it is Win 7.
I would personally go to control panel and check my power options to make sure I do not have the settings set you close display or sleep mode or anything set to soon to close your machine down. Often times people have these set to go off there are defaulted usually to save battery usage and your lap top from getting to hot and shutting it down. The thermal switch may be activating sooner than normal. What some folks do is purchase one of those underneath fan coolers to keep their lap tops from getting to hot and constantly shutting down.
This can be the case have this checked out at least set the lap top for more time before closing down or turning the monitor off. Let us hope it is not more serious than appears. Like a lamp in the monitor going out. If it is new the lap top I would not worry about that issue because it is intermittent. Which leads me to believe it is a thermal or a shut down issue. Get the cooler fan for your lap top I recommend anyone that reads this post to also do this as well. Clean your lap top blow them out it is critical to do this to keep dust away and keep it clean.
Now there is recovery software which is free to download Click Here to check this out to retrieve lost files. Also important to get those precious memories separate off your computer and on to separate CD or DVD or storage USB stick so that when this type of thing happens you have not lost your precious memories. I hope this helps you. John

Laptop gets warm near touchpad , shuts down

Sounds like it is overheating and then shutting down. Is the laptop on a hard surface or a lap or blanket? You need to have air circulation.

Laptop is hot shuts down

Any computer will shut down when it over heats it is now a safety feature to help your comptuer from burning out. the most likely problem is that your vents are probably plugged. you can use a vaccum or a can of compressed air to blow them out. on the toshiba there is one on the bottom and one at the back. when you use your laptop please make sure that you always put it on a hard surface even when you use it on your bed or lap. plugging the vents on the computer will only damage it.
