Fuel filter assembly is fitted with a prime pump. you can use it to prime the fuel. another way is to loosen each line of the injectors to make lose the trapped air.

Hi Peter, If the vehicle turns on the starter all the time, and sometimes starts and other times fails, check the fuel filter for leakage. Sometimes air gets into the fuel system. When it gives problems, open the bonnet (hood) and have someone pump the pump on top of the filter housing. If it feels soft when beginning to pump, I would suspect either a leakage on the fuel line or the filter housing. If you need to replace the housing and filter, remember to fill the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel first. the glow plugs can also cause problems if one or more have burned out. your diesel engine should have a center bolt holding fuel filter it in place.you place drain pan under fuel filter when you remove top center bolt while holding fuel filter then remove old fuel filter then take new fuel filter add few ounces clean diesel fuel in new fuel filter lubricate gasket new fuel filter cartridge then install new filter crank engine check for leaks.
First try replacing the fuel filter and also check the air filter element, if its clogged with dust replace.
After doing all this check the performance of the engine,if its still the same thn time to remove the injector nozzles for service.
The last option would thn be the pump(injector).

if you have the 6.0 then the filters are located on top on the motor right beside your oil filter and under the drivers side on the fuel pump, check to see if you have diesel in your bowl where the fuel filter is, no diesel in there your fuel pump might be dead, check fuses to fuel pump and check relay on the passengers side kicker panel, check your owners manual
Hi,remove fuel filter fill it this should get ya enough fuel so it will start and continue to pump fuel ,riding system of air and system will be primed,Good luck.
This system should be self priming, however if it did run out of fuel, I highly recommendchanging the filters.After doing so have an assistant turn key to run as you listen for fuel lift pump running,(under drivers side floor attached to frame, one of the fuel filters is part of pump,the other filter is on top of engine) Could have hurt pump by running dry. They are notorious for hard start after filter change and/or out of fuel.Hope this helps.
