Question about HP (REFURB) HP XW8000 XPP X 2.6GHZ 2P 36GB SCSI 2GB DVD CDRW NVS280 RMKT HP (C39951999BGSP) PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have an HP XW8000 with a Matrox Parhelia 128MB card on Windows 7-32bit. I tried to upgrade the Matrox bios to better perform w/Win 7....but, it appears that the bios may not have taken properly and now I have no display. The pc boots up properly as I can hear the Win7 bootup jingle. I can blindly navigate to "shutdown" the pc....but no display...not even the bios screen or post screen. Any suggestions on how I may be able to acquire some kind of display so that I can troubleshoot the graphics settings ?

Never change BIOS unless:
1: the PC has issues, post them and ask at HP , no here.
2: if HP tells you to flash the BIOS, 99.9 % of time they will not.

where did you get this BIOS> HP, seems not.
BIOS must be carefully matched, too the hardware first.
this pc only supports XP , not W7, per HP official site.
so there is no W7 BIOS for any XW8000, period
so that means you got the bios FROM A VIRUS SITE, OR WORSE.
Did you pay cash for it, ? omg.

what we do is backup the bios , first
so there is a regression path, if it fails. as most do. (wrong bios)

the one and only correct bios is there at HP.
data title.

Matrox.
this PC came with 3 video cards, not one was a MATROX.
so did you flash it, you never said what you flashed.
here is a list of all possbible flash rom devices.
HP MOBO BIOS
Video cards. HP and 100s of others
HDD Bios.
DVD drives, vast rom updates.
RAID
SATA chip
this PC has over 24 FIRMWARE upgrades,
if you read the HP page, not one is for W7,
infact the last update was 2007, 2 years before w7, was released.

here is your official pages
id recommend getting it all, as HP is about to drop support on it.
the 10year rule , ok>
this one is 2005 PC, so is ending soon.

here are all your drivers, and such, NO MATROX.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-workstation-xw8000/96495

here is MATROX
they call it BIOS but its really BIOS extension for video only

best i can tell, this is you ADD IN video card
    and says, non windows, applicable.
means it run on all revision of windows
    not just W7,

    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/suppor...

things to try, (generic ,lacking OP facts)

    This HP Desktop puter
    1: try another external screen yet> (
does the OSD screen work with its menu button pressed? if not its dead. a screen button !

2: pull power cord from PSU,
3: push power button for 15seconds, (discharges it)
4: power up now, normally, see if
5: BIOS on HP works now,? button pressed ESC?

6: if not, then it can be the Matrox card dead
or the PC Dead. only trying another card can sort which it is. but read on....
7: if you flashed THE HP MOBO and not the MATROX card, then reload the correct BIOS in the HP link above. if not then don't/.

8: remove the coin cell from MOBO, 1 minute later put back, (I measure the cell and 2.9v is min I allow or its replaced with new)

YOU MOBO has an on-board video chip and 15pin VGA jack there.
    so remove the MATROX card
then BIOS works, doesnt it. right?
you have 2x pin15 VGA jacks see em?

the MOBO BIOS has a bit to set in this mode
set it to go to internal chip video first.
Called the , what video chip/card to use.+

next time show exactly the place where you down loaded flash rom code. show the URL is best.'
we cant ever guess, what you did, you must say.
    or help goes wrong.

i can post like 1000 fake virus sites for drivers so what you did and what you got,
    if not a clue...

best I can tell is you nuked the MATROX
if yes, time for new VGA card.
or go back the the ON-board chip.

SOURCE: Setting up dual monitors with NVIDIA 7300 GS Graphics Adapter

so...
your computer don't recognize your nvidia graphic card in PCI Express slot.
you are runing now with computer's integrated graphic card?
if so then you won't have dualview option. in this case it looks for me like you've installed in the wrong way your graphic card.

your NV GeForce 7300 GS has 2 video output?
if yes then you should have the option for 2 monitors on nVIDIA control panel (i have check my nVIDIA GeForce 7600gt and in my case this option is present but is enabled only if i connect the second monitor, so try do so)

you have installed the latest nVIDIA drivers from the official website? http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

check if your video card is corect installed start/run type in " devmgmt.msc ". it will open device manager and under the display adapter tab you should see what video card you use now.

The 6200 is compatible, just make sure it's the PCI version and not PCI-E.

Have you tried a beefier power supply? Between the processor and the video card you have, you may be right at the minimum to run the machine. Ive had similar problems with machines in the past and they have all been resolved with more powerful power supplies. Step up to a 600 watt or higher supply and see how things go. Good luck.

SOURCE: HP a1600n desktop will turn on but will not boot.

you need to open up the case, and remove the CMOS battery ( a silver wafer-style battery about the size of a quarter) and leave it out for about 10 minutes. put the battery back in and close the case back up and DONT mess with ANYTHING ELSE. if the computer STILL wont boot, then your motherboard is bad, and will need to be replaced through the manufacturer of your PC.

SOURCE: Hello i have hp rp5000 pc which have AGP port

Erm, although the slot is labelled AGP1 (HEY HP Accelerated GRAPHICS Port 1 ???), it is not for a graphics card.
It is intended for an enhanced USB card that adds additional USB ports as well as 12volt and 24volt outputs.
The RP5000 was designed to be a POS (point of sale) unit and the additional ports were for devices such as barcode readers, handscanners and card readers to be plugged into.

How can i allocate more memory to video card of acer aspire 5100

You can only do that with onboard video cards. If you have an onboard you can choose how much ram to assign to it in your bios settings. However it is limited and if you already have 128 assigned to it, that's probably about all it's gonna give ya. But hey it never hurts to check Assigning your physical memory to your graphics card will result a shortage of your total system memory and your whole system will slow down a bit.
Video cards meant for better processing the graphical content of your system and free up your system's physical memory.[via]
So, if you buy a new and better video card with more memory you will have a fast system with better performance.

Hi,

A clean install is always better than an overwrite.

In Windows XP preferably in Safe Mode, to uninstall a device, you can try:
1. right click on My Computer, click on Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, expand your Display Adapter, right click on the device such as your Matrox Parphelia, click on Uninstall;
2. open your Control Panel, click on Add or Remove Programs, highlight Matrox Parphelia, click on Change/Remove; and/or
3. Click on Start, click on Run, type "regedit", click on Edit, click on Find, type "Matrox", delete entry, press F3, do the same and delete all instances of Matrox.

To install, reboot your PC, insert Matrox driver/installer CD and follow on screen instructions. If it does not auto start, open/explore your CD and click on setup.exe.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
