If you were not asked to send it back ..Don;t most times Mio throw them out anyway and the trade in is a bit of a gimmick as they just give discount for previous users.
Keep it till your asked ( if you are) an adress will be sent to you for return if they really want it.

install your miomore desktop software from the MIO DVD and under TOOLS you have an option called: "Reinstall software on your Mio."

You can restore it from disk provided you with the device. Apparently you have a problem with the activation of the maps
