Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Series 80 Super Capacity Plus Washer. It has 3 water temperature settings, Cold/Cold, Warm/Cold, and Hot/Cold. Warm is Cold and Hot is barely warm. I know I have very hot water as the supply and it is not restricted. What's the problem?

Okay so I followed my own advice and replaced the inlet supply valve assembly which contains a thermistor. Didn't help a whole lot. I would think that what happens is that the thermistor tells the washer's brain what the temperature of the water is after the mix, and adjusts the opening of the hot and cold valves according to the wash temperature selection (hot, warm, cold). The trouble may be either with the washer's brain, or the supposed "Energy Saving" feature of this washer. In measuring the resistance of the thermistor after exposing it to hot and cold water, it looks like the resistance goes up with cold water, down with hot; the range is around 15 (hot) 70 (cold) ohms with 53.5 being room temperature (warm). My next step is to go buy some big resistors, say 30 or 40 ohms and one in series to fool the washer into thinking the water is always cold. Hope this works.
Yes, I can make it work by turning the cold water flow down at the spigot, but I have to remember to turn it back up after the wash cycle otherwise I don't get a good rinse, which is always cold. I think that's a pain when it's supposed to be an "automatic" washing machine.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

the inlet valves just open and close, if you have high cold water pressure, it will override the hot water. I suggest you turn down the cold water valve, until warm is kinda warm. your cold water fills will take longer, but you will have warmer water

Thanks. I've tried that, but I have to turn the cold water down to a trickle, as there isn't much variance in the pressures between hot and cold. I'm going to try to replace the inlet temperature sensor. I can only assume this device varies the amount the cold and hot valves open based upon the resulting temperature, otherwise I don't know what it would be for.

Don't know yet if this solved my problem, but it was something that I hadn't thought of

okay so I bought a 10 watt, 40 ohm resistor and put in series with the thermistor located just after the inlet valves. I think it helped a bit. Maybe I'll try a little more resistance.

I have kenmore 80 series heavy duty/ super capacity plus washer that after it fills with water, hot or cold and it starts the wash cycle, I noticed that the agitator only moves once in awhile and stops

hum either a bad timer sticking the point contacts close. have u tried this in all cycles? and possibly a motor with bad windings not enough power to run agitation? try running in mild or gentle and see what happens? I was tempted to say the cam dogs in agitator but they dont work then stop then work, when they go out they go out.

My kenmore 80 series washing machine makes a horrible noise and cold side fills about half speed when filling with water. What should I check?

For the slow water issue, you will need to replace the water inlet valve. Here is a link to the part.
Could you describe the noise and where it is coming from?

I have a Kenmore washer model 110.98762792 and im having a problem with the cold water. When the water temperature switch is set to the cold/cold position the washer does not fill with cold water. W

Since U get warm water that tells you that the cold and hot water solenoids are both operating. Ergo the anomaly has to be with the device that controls temperature.

I DON'T GET WARM WATER, WHEN SET ON WARM, ONLY GET COLD

If the setting is only hot and cold, there will be no
warm water coming out. At warm setting if it is
present, it should give you warm water.

Kenmore washer series 80, Clothes still soapy

If you are getting no water spray during the rinse cycle that would cause the soapy clothes issue.

Are you getting cold water during the wash/rinse cycles? If you have the machine set to warm/warm you may only be getting hot water while the final spin is calling for cold.

If you have cold water available then the timer is not calling for the water spray. The problem is either in the mixing valve or the timer.

Washer fills only with hot water

Disconnect cold water hose from machine. Inspect the filter screen on the cold water connection. DO NOT REMOVE SCREEN. If full of debris, use a spray bottle with a hard spray to remove debris. If unable to remove or cold is still slow, replace valve.

Kenmore 80 series top loader the washer will not fill with cold water only hot water

Yes patrick you can try removing the cold hose from the washer, look inside the valve for a metal screen. If it has sediment blocking it remove screen, clean it and reinstall. If still no water replace inlet valve.
