Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY Electric Dryer

Open Question

Maytag Atlantis MDE6200AYW dryer runs, no heat. I pulled out the timer motor and noticed the orange wire leading from the timer motor to the temperature switch had burned through. Also, the post on the timer motor where the orange wire connects was very loose and melted at it's base. My thought is to replace the timer motor and fix the orange wire so it can be remounted to the new timer motor but that's an approximately $90.00 part. That would tap me out and I'm unsure if the thermal fuse or the heater element is fried... question 1) is the cause of the lack of heat most likely attributable to the burned wire and melted post at the timer motor? 2) what would cause the wire to do that? 3) How would I safely test the thermal fuse and the heating element? Thanks, Dennis

Check to make sure that you have the proper voltage running to the dryer first. Next you may have a problem with your heating element or with your thermal fuse. Get your dryer opened up so you can see your heating element. Run the dryer and if you see the heating element come on and then turn right back off again then you have a bad thermal fuse. If it doesn't come on at all though then the heating element is bad. Both parts can be picked up at your local appliance repair shop. Just make sure to unplug the dryer before replacing the part. If you have any other questions let me know and let me know if this was helpful for you. Good luck.

SOURCE: Heating element is getting red hot - like a heater.

No the first thing I would check is the vent going outside may be cloged the air going across the heating element should keep it from glowing real bright

i had the same problem with my dryer and i installed the wrong thermal fuse for gas dryer which calls for a pink thermal fuse in which i installed and it works fine also check the lint in the front of your dryer. also my dryer which is the same make as yours seems will run on the fluff cycle until i replaced the right thermal fuse. my dryer run exceptionally hot and eventally shut down and it only run on the fluff cycle for any length of time.

Maytag atlantis MDE6400AY timer works but dryer doesn't come on

First thin I would try is to check your thermal fuse for continuity with a ohm meter with the wires removed from the fuse and the dryer unplugged. Its located on the tunnel that in cases the heating element.
Here is the part in case you find it bad.

I have a maytag dryer and when you start it the timer doesn't move - it will run for hours unless you stop it. now when you pull the knob to start it doesn't respond

Sounds like the problem is in your timer contacts, in which case you would have to replace your timer. A no heat scenario on auto dry could also cause a dryer to run continuously.

Hope this helps _MJ_

Replaced timer module. Dryer did not run.

Check the voltage across the timer motor, make sure that you have 120 volts. If you have 120 across the timer motor, then it is bad. Also check your wiring to make sure you have wires in right place

Maytag Atlantis MDE6200AYW loose dryer paddle

You might have to remove the back, then the top, but it looks like the paddles are either held on buy a screw from the outside of the drum or they just have clips that lock them to the drum. Once the back is removed, you should be able to see how the top is held on. I think it is screwed or has clips for the back and then you slide it forward to unlock the front tabs. You can follow this if you don;t get a reply
from someone who has worked on this model#. Hope you get it apart ok and fixed by yourself.
