If you have the original recovery disc, do a fresh re-install of your operational system, this will completely erase your hard drive including all the files.

SOURCE: downloaded windows 7 upgrade which

Turn the pc off and turn it back on again. As soon as you turn it on, press the f2, f8 or delete key to get the pc to go into the bios system. Try each key one time and if it does not stop the startup and open the bios system, turn the pc off and restart it again and try the next one. If you can get the pc to go into the bios system, you can retstore the pc back to the last known good configuration. Then save to CMOS and exit. Then restart the pc again and it should start normally. You can also buy a windows 7 disk and put it in the drive and restart the pc to get it to boot from the disk and restore it by reinstalling the operating system.

Dell latitue D610 stuck on black screen with a blinking cursore.. help?

First, try and boot into safe mode by powering off your computer then powering it back on and tapping the f8 key, after that you should see safe mode and other options below it, click the first option which is safe mode, then go into your start menu and go to your system restore which in Windows 7 and Vista is located in accessories and then system tools, then choose a restore point earlier than the date you are on. This is a temporary fix and you will need to get a virus removal done asap. Hope this helps.

Turn the computer off all of the way by holding in the power button until it shuts off.

Turn it back on and immediately start tapping the F8 key. It should bring you to a menu that has an option for going to "Last Known Good Configuration". Choose that option and see if it boots up.

If pressing F8 doesn't bring you to the menu - you may need to run diagnostics on the computer. To get to the diagnostics, attempt to boot to the Boot Menu by pressing F11 or F12 at the boot screen and see if it gives you the option to run diagnostics.

You have errors in the boot section, not allowing any of the GUI's to run.
When the system starts press F8 and when you get the menu select Recovery.
That will fix it.

Eee pc boots to blinking cursor

You need to enter the bios when the computer turns on and configure the boot priority to boot from wherever you need it to for the Restore DVD. Then Save your changes and exit, now it should boot from the Restore DVD.

To enter BIOS it should tell you what button to press as the computer POST's, if not Google it, or try all the function keys.

I'm using windows xp home edition i got the virus

You had "Floppy disk seek failure" per your comment. Therefore this is not a problem with your hardisk. Your BIOS was configured boot up from Floppy that was why when you booted up it was looking for info from the Floppy, so if it could not find, it was sure to report to you. Just pop something out of your Floppy then you should be OK. Cheer.

Hi all you need to do is insert the windows CD and whilst booting up it will give you an option to recover windows files only if the cd recognizes a damaged OS, If not then you will have to go through the console which is a more technical method.

Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.

Could it be the Boot Virus? I had the same issues. My co-worker was able to find the virus, which Norton could not. My PC is now running normal.
