Question about SINGER 7470 Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Hi I am having a problem with my 7470 singer sewing machine. Even with thread in the needle and in the bobbin no stitches come on the fabric. I tried manually pulling the wheel towards me to see how far the needle is going down in the plate and it reached a point where it makes a clanking noise. Any ideas?

Is your buttonhole lever down by accident? If, that isn't it, it could be your timing is off. One other thing to try, is your needle all the way up in the shaft? I hope that it is something simple, call Singer at 1-800-4singer and maybe they will have quick fix because the timing is not a do it yourself job.

I have a Singer Stylist Model #7258.Serial #H10229C25810334. When I'm sewing, the top stitch is perfect but the bottom stitch comes out like backward C's. How does that even happen!????

Check your stitch sample. Is it actually the top thread showing under the fabric, or is it really the bobbin thread. Generally, thread problems under the fabric are an upper thread problem. Thread issues above the fabric is a bobbin issue.

Try a brand new needle.
Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread.
Remove the bobbin, check that it is wound smoothly, and install and thread the bobbin case making sure the bobbin spins the correct direction.
From that point, there may need to be some tension adjustments required.

Understanding Thread Tension Threads

If the problem continues, you may need to have it serviced. Perhaps there is a burr or snag somewhere that is interfering with the thread in the thread path.

Singer conferdence 7470 not sewing

Try a brand new needle. If that doesn't work, then the machine is most likely out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Needle dragging in bobbin casing. How do I adjust needle shaft?

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

Singer ce100 is skipping stitches when needle is in center position

You don't say what you are sewing so I'm going to give you general answers in hopes it helps.

1. Needles: There is no such thing as a universal needle. Make sure you are using the proper needle for your fabric. This goes for thread too... make sure it's sized for the needle.

2. Make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly (poorly wound bobbins will cause problems too)

3 Improperly threaded machine. Make sure you area threading it correctly with the foot in the UP position.

4. If you are a material puller... shop it. It is never good to pull your fabric through the machine as you sew.

5. Stitch length. simple rule: Fat fabric.. long stitch, fine/thin fabric short stitch.

I'm not familiar with your futura abut I've noticed new home machines take a way presser foot pressure adjustments... which can cause issues too.

I just had my 7470 serviced because the thread tension was messed up. Now as I'm sewing along, the needle will move from center position to left position by itself and then within a few stitched,

the gear or part that holds the needle position in place may either
be getting jarred or is worn,,
try using a different threadThe needle thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

also try adjusting the top thread tension
as far as the bright spot, the display could be going out.

sometimes the repair person does not check the machine to
see if the machine is working correctly, because they would have
to charge more and some don't so you have to bring the machine
back more often and that makes them more money.

I have checked the needle size, the top stitch threading, the bottom threading (including the thread going counter clockwise) and my 7470 Singer will not make stitches. The needle goes up and down but...

These machines get knocked out of time very easy. Especially when you sew over denium. To check this, take off the needle plate, take out the bobbin case, have a new needle in, put the needle in left needle position or on wide zig zag. You going the check the timing of the needle and hook. With the needle over to the left, and when it is on it's up stroke, you want to see the hook tip passing behind the needle just above the eye of the needle. If it passes by after the needle eye has gone up, the timing is off. If so, you'll need to get access to the lower hook shaft timing belt gear set screws to readjust the timing. This also affects the feed timing, so you might have to have a repairman do this. I can help you if your up for it.

Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

if your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.
