tr yresetting and reloading the firmware there should be a small pinhole on the back and if you push a pin into it then it will reset and reloading the firmware should clear up any issues your having with it hope this helps :)
Check that the Creative Zen Touch has the most current version of the firmware driver. Firmware updates typically fix most common errors and problems encountered when using the Zen Touch. Turn on the MP3 player and select "System" in the home menu. Click "Information" then press "Settings." Select "About." Look for the internal firmware's version number listed under "Version." The most recent firmware is 2.01.00 and was released in 2006. Ensure that the song files you are trying to transfer to the Zen Touch are compatible with the player. On your computer, right click the song file to view its file format. The Zen Touch can play all unprotected WMAs, WAVs and MP3s. It does not support the popular protected AAC format that is used in online stores such as Apple iTunes.
Verify that the Zen Touch's internal battery is fully charged. This may cause what appears to be a blank or dead screen, as well as slow responsiveness to your touch. Insert the power adapter brick connector into the Zen Touch's power port found on its right-hand top corner. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet to begin charging. The MP3 player will be finished charging in four hours. You may use the MP3 player while it is charging, but this may slow down the charging process.

about this issue of creative zen wherein the device is not booting up to the normal os. and is not being detected by your computer, and giving you options to clean, reset, and format. my brother and i own creative zen, my brother own zen 4GB and i own 16gb. i don't have any problems at all. but my brother does. what i did is i just download the firmware version of my brother's zen that is missing which is version 1.03.04_0.6.1. unfortunately you will not find this firmware version at creative website.

1. download the firmware for your zen.
2. connect your zen to your pc.
3. run the executable file (firmware).
4. just follow the on-screen instructions on your computer and you're good to go.

You will need to put the Zen into recovery mode and erase the firmware, then reload the firmware. Follow these steps:
To Erase the Firmware:
1. Get a paperclip and straighten it out.
2. Hold down the Play/Pause button, and put the paperclip through the reset hole. Release the paperclip while continuing to press the Play/Pause button until you see the screen change.
3. Select "Reload Firmware."
To Load the new Firmware:
Go to www.Creative.com/support --> downloads. Click through the navigation and download the latest Zen Touch firmware. Reboot your computer, then plug in your Zen via USB cable. Double-click the firmware icon and then click upgrade.
This means both systems contain a bug, or cookie. If the firmware you accessed isn't applying itself to the device, this means the system itself has been corrupted. Double check with your system configuration properties on each device, and tell me whats going on from there.
Sounds like a bad motherboard to me. However, it may just need a firmware update. Have you tried to update the firmware yet?
